The style is very much from the tabloid press and then parodied brilliantly by 80’s Smash Hits in particular. Where NME might describe Tony Hadley as “Spandau Ballet’s lead singer” , Smash Hits might say “Spandau’s foghorn-adjacent warbler-in-chief”.
It’s a fun piece and a subject that tickles me, but I’d be surprised if there was a whole book on it. If they’ve succeeded, good luck to them..
