I know there are fans of the Penistone Piaf here, and I discover she has been gainfully occupied during lockdown, making the now time honoured folkie covers ye olde charts album.
Dusty in here, innit….

Saturday I’m in love.
That’s great isn’t it? Also I’m super proud as my daughter commented “is that Kate Rusby?” That’s good parenting!
I was worried this might go a bit John Lewis ad, but I should have trusted Kate. It’s good.
Excellent
That brightened up my Saturday enormously. Penistone Piaf indeed!
That’s flipping gorgeous. Thank you. And thanks to your post discovered there’s also a lovely version of Manic Monday. Looking forward to more of this.
I confess to having got to find her a bit twee of late, having been an early adopter: live, her Violet Elizabeth Ramsbottom little Yorkshire girly can cloy. But this, and Manic Monday have had me pre-order on spec, without even knowing the rest of the track listing.
I was put off by her live between song patter being absolutely identical from one tour to another, as if she’d learnt a script and was sticking to it no matter what. Still love the early albums, but covering The Cure won’t get me back on board I’m afraid.
No, me neither. It’s a female folky thing lately – one of our local singers who is moderately successful (though she’s really good) Emily Slade does “I don’t like Mondays” which I can take or leave compared to her other stuff.
I think anyone with talent and good taste could make a good job of that song. She has a very pleasant voice but Kate doesn’t do anything particularly interesting with it. The sheer quality of the song carries it, really.
The Penistone Piaf. like it! She actually lived (and recorded all her albums) in the village where we live, Oxspring, which is just outside Penistone. She’s put the house with the recording studio on the market. Yours for a cool £895,000. We used to live in Mill Hill, north London. I couldn’t imagine what she’d get if this property/land was there, rather than up here. I imagine you could stick a 2 in front of it, at the very least. Here’s the link, if any of you fancy moving to God’s Own Country. For avoidance of doubt, our house doesn’t look anything like this one!

Blimey, how the folk world suffers for its art… Not (that) jealous, but is music her only source of income? That’s a lot of folk festivals. To be fair, she has grafted since her teens, the daughter of parents who know the ropes and where the brass is.
think she pretty much manages herself, puts out her own records, books her own gigs (did you see all those box files?) as well, so no middlemen taking their ten percent
