With apologies to the recent ‘The only person who is on both THIS and THIS…’ thread…
On a similar note, which musicians share a surname (or even a full name?) with someone they have nothing else in common with? eg
Lauryn Hill and Jimmy Hill
Bryan Adams and Gerry Adams
Johnny Marr and Andrew Marr
Over to you…

An obvious one (to me) is the late American jazz pianist Bill Evans and the still-with-us American jazz/funk saxophonist Bill Evans
Bill Evans (piano) with Stan Getz
Bill Evans (saxophone)
There was also a not-so-well-known British jazz drummer called Tony Levin in the ’60s playing with Joe Harriott, Ronnie Scott, Tubby Hayes etc. Not the same guy who’s now back for a third stint as King Crimson’s bassist
Yusef Lateef was also named Bill Evans prior to changing it, although it was not his birth name, as his mother re-married.
One lives and learns..

And Mick of the Clash
Allan Clarke and late Tory roue Alan Clark
…also the excellent film/TV director Alan Clark (The Firm, Comedians etc)
Johnny Giles wasn’t a hard man for LUFC. Well, not more than most of the team anyway. He was the creative one.

Clarence Clemons – parpmeister extraordinaire for Broooce. Jake Clemons – parpmeister extraordinaire for Broooce. Are they by any chance related?*

There used to a guitarist called Glenn Campbell who lived in New Zealand. My research (ie quick peek at Wikipedia) tells me was born in California, moved to London where he was a member of The Misunderstood and later in his life settled in NZ
The Misunderstood – apt name for a man with his moniker.
A great favourite of John Peel as I recall – he was always lauding them to the skies on Perfumed Garden and such. I saw them live once – they weren’t very good, in truth, though an extremely noisy rock ‘n’ roll pedal steel guitar was certainly a novelty.
They had two good songs – this and I Can Take You To The Sun. Fortunately they are very very good indeed. Typical Peel band, in other words.
The cobbled-together compo Before The Dream Faded is worth a listen mind.
And he then steeled up for the Juicy Lucy.
(Of course you remember the album cover…….)
Was that Glen Fernando Campbell?

Andy Bell from Ride
Andy Bell from Erasure
I’m pretty sure there’s a TV news reporter called Andy Bell too.
When Andy Bell from Ride got married to a Swedish woman, a Swedish tabloid claimed in its pages that Andy Bell, singer in Erasure, was the one getting married to a Swedish woman.
I found that difficult to believe. 🙂
Andy Bell from Erasure joining Oasis is even more unlikely.

Wasn’t there another Michael Jackson who was, like, some top British Army General in the Gulf War or something?
That’s General Sir Mike Jackson GCB CBE DSO DL to you, corporal Duco, and don’t slouch.
Our local Labour Party chair is yet another Mike Jackson.
Michael Jackson is the beer writer to me. He blamed it on the bitter…
The Beer Hunter was a big deal at the time. A guy on BBC2 taking beer seriously in the age of Lamot and Skol and Hofmiester… radical stuff.

Jim Morrison and James Morrison are not the same.
Neither should one confuse John Cale or JJ Cale (although one often find them in each others record shop ‘section’)
JJ Cale singing “The bugger in the short sleeves fucked my wife” is sadly something we’ll never hear.
“Jim Morrison and James Morrison are not the same”
Indeed, and they aren’t the very talented West Brom midfielder either
“Why has Miles Davis recorded a tribute to Jack Johnson? He’s rubbish!”
I watched a really good British film last night called “God’s Own Country”. It had its cinema release last year.
It was written and directed by a person called ‘Francis Lee’. I assume this is not the burly former Manchester City and England forward and penalty taker, who subsequently became big in toilet paper?

I’m not, as it were, “under” Nurse Quatro. She’d need quite a lot of leather to make a catsuit.
Like that’s gonna put me off. Me!
Gene Hunt got there first

Had to visit the hospital recently and was asked if I’d ever lived in the town about five miles away.
No I replied, “Why?”
“Well there’s someone with your name lives there, same first, middle and last name and same date of birth”
What are the chances?
Mingle-mangle, mingle-mangle, mingle-mangle…
There was a Roger Moore film like that – The Man Who Haunted Himself.
In a room of thirty people, there’s a 50% chance that two of them share the same birthday.
23 people.
Twenty three is a an interesting number….go google it… (or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_enigma)
Bill Drummond certainly believes so
But we also share 3 names and same date including the year.
Perhaps one of the mathematicians among us could help.
This is good news! All my life I’ve had people looking down their noses telling me I’m “common”, which I – foolishly, it now turns out – believed to be a term of disparagement.
In fact, they were simply struck by the extraordinary coincidence that identical SR 9000 units were to be found the length and breadth of the country..
Are you sure you went home from the hospital with the right parents all those years ago…?
Hmmmmm.
That’ll learn you for giving your AW nom de plume in the, um, clinic. And, from what I have read in your notes, it is a perfectly plausible story. Many people fall onto light bulbs.
I always vacuum naked and slipped, honest. @retropath2
David Mills (erstwhile Middlesbrough and West Brom striker – Britains first half-million pound player)
Mrs Mills (detuned ivory tinker)

I bought a book of music journalism by #1. I asked for a signed copy, when it arrived the inscription was “sign it yourself”. Back in the olden days, I sometimes used to recieve his review CDs in the post.
Today, I received a delivery of high-end audio test equipment intended for #2.

The one that always amazes me (because it is not exactly a common name)
Warren Ellis – bearded weirdo who writes with Nick Cave
Warren Ellis – bearded weirdo who writes comic books.
(I think the would both accept the description)
(oh, and I am not a former Kilmarnock player, nor a Christian Rock singer, nor a former member of HMHB [sadly])
Graphic novelist W E is also a novelist. I have his debut “Crooked Little Vein” from 2007. I bought it under the misapprehension it was by the Bad Seed W E, but I enjoyed it immensely anyway. I’ve never seen any of his graphic novel work as I’m not particularly interested in that sort of stuff.
