The suicide bomber at Ansbach was refused entry to the open air concert as he didn’t have a ticket. It’s a common form of discrimination, this pay-for-ticket rule. He had a bomb with nails and shrapnel in it, which is somewhat different to the usual festival kit of spare bog roll, cagoul, pork pies, and a bifter in one’s sock. The shocking news is that the mighty ‘Tull were playing. Western culture is now truly under threat.

Many may have died had he got in. Maybe we should see the light hearted side of these things, but difficult for me right now.
Islamists don’t like irony, laughter and scorn, so they deserve all they generate – starting with their children being fans of “A Passion Play”. I am sure Ian Anderson will be even more sardonic about this atrocity (and i don’t mean “A Passion Play” or the latest version of Bouree) soon enough. Ich Bin Ronnie Pilgrim.
The “light hearted side” of a suicide bomber?
Not funny.
At all.
I am not light-hearted about this at all. Dark-hearted, without a doubt. Gallows humour gets you through in a way a candle, a garage bouquet, and another verse of “we shall overcome” or FaceBook ‘like’ frankly doesn’t and hasn’t. My working days are filled with awful things which can destroy the carers as much as the victims (and oppressors), if you dwell on them too long without occasional mordant wit. So i reckon more laughing at religious and ideological fanatics is good therapy, especially backed up with serious-as-cancer unsentimental management of the persons who turn their fanaticism into pointless violence. Seems to me that the current strategy reverses this – sentimental management of oppressive but touchy sensibilities, and giving the ideologies behind these credibility – and is wanting. OOAA.
“We laugh at tragedy because the alternative is to cry over it” – Sergio Aragones
Didn’t think there was anything mean-spirited in the OP. If we’re going to be under a state of siege from these fucksticks we may as well be able to laugh about it.
Thanks, Bing: the only mean spirits I have are for Jihadis and their enablers. Undermine these bastards ever which way. What would frank Zappa have to say about the situation?
I`m with you Vincent, I`m never going to let these f_cking c_nts grind me down and that goes to all those who support them including the apologists for them. I hate these bastards who have nothing but murder in their hearts, their only excuse is kill for killings sake. These I.S. bastards are not fighting for any homeland, their only cause is to dominate the rest of humanity by terror for the sake of it.
Well F_ck OFF you I.S. bastards and bring on The Tull.
* Etheric Fist Bump * Codpiece Time. Bring. It. ON.
Yes, we have to STAND UP to them. THIS WAS a great country once and these Islamists must be THICK AS A BRICK if they think these murderous actions will BENEFIT their cause.
I can’t keep my feelings UNDER WRAPS any longer. Bring on the HEAVY HORSES my WAR CHILD. We’ll need your BROADSWORD AND THE BEAST to tear out the evil that walks amongst us ROOT TO BRANCHES, even if we end up in an AQUALUNG we……. we……
Sod it, that’s all I got.
I’m confusing Aqualung with Iron Lung, but you catch my drift.
I’ve had this discussion/argument with full on pacifists, who I regard as somewhat demented. To any sane person, Peace goes hand in hand with mutual respect and tolerance, but there is a degree, a line, that has to sometimes be met in order to preserve this. I’m not going to blah blah the obvious, but I have actually met with mental logic total shut down when I’ve suggested to them the hypothetical philosophical moral scenario of, for example, standing in front of the entrance to a gas chamber. There is a gun at your feet. You can pick it up and use it. There’s also innocent people in front of you, victims, and a lone soldier, maybe not ‘just doing his job’, perhaps a zealous nut who you can choose to take out instead. What do you do ? I know what I’d do.
All I ever get as a reply is ‘I’m a pacifist. I don’t believe in violence’. Well neither do I believe in violence, but fuck that attitude when the shit hits the fan.
Peace & Love
‘just doing his job’ eg you can disarm him with the upper hand, if not, Gouda time, dude.
JC, perhaps it’d be best if you gave up the scuba-diving now?
Time to hang up my flippers and snorkel
I’m afraid it is, M. Cousteauroo.
“Well F_ck OFF you I.S.B bastards and bring on The Tull.”
Overheard at Sunbury Jazz and Blues Festival, 1968
Until the third sentence I thought you were talking about the Tull.
smile to face.
I was with you until you threatened to bring on the Tull.
Can’t we bring on Sonny Rollins instead?
Couldn’t agree me with @andyourbirdcansing and have to say Vincent is spot on with laughing in the face of their evil. We start moping around and changing our way of life they have won and I aint having any of that malarkey.
That should say more not me. In other words completely agree with him.
My comment was in response to the “light-hearted” reply by Dai. Didn’t find the OP mean-spirited at all, just not THAT funny if you’re surrounded by news about the dozen or so people who were wounded.
On the other hand, you should have heard the conversation the Munich attacker had with his victims before he shot them – very Dennis-Hopper-in-Blue-Velvet-meets-the Pythons…!
Sorry, Fatima – wasn’t having a pop at you, or anyone else.
For what it’s worth, I was in Munich on Friday with my family, having missed a connecting flight. We were given five minutes to choose between spending the night in Munich in a hotel about a block away from the imminent shooting, or catching an immediate flight to our destination via Istanbul (!). I’ve always wanted to take small kids to the site of a recent military coup, so we went for the latter.
You have to laugh or you really will cry.
“I’ve always wanted to take small kids to the site of a recent military coup, so we went for the latter.”
Now that I laughed at.
Coup de théâtre, I suspect.
Probably a Martin Barre fan
