Stuck in the gap above some real books on my shelves, I just found a small thing rather grandly calling itself the New Musical Express Book of Quotes – Big Mouth Strikes Again. It was given away with the NME on February 4th 1995 it says here.
See if you can guess who said this:
“I’m sitting in the lap of luxury while it’s available. While stocks last. Nice work if you can get it. I’ve got enough money. Guilt? Who needs it?”
More in the comments if you like.

Sounds like something Mr Lydon might have said.
Was my thought too
Is the right answer!
Back of the Net!
Bit too early for a Gallagher?
Robbie Williams?
I’m going to come from left field and say Jimmy Page. My hunch because I remember him saying in an NME interview they he voted for Thatcher.
Nah, it’ll be a self-professed bleeding heart leftie – otherwise why make the comment about guilt?
A. Beatle (not Ringo)

The answer was Rotten.
Next quote:
“Fancy being a bee, leading an incredible existence, all these flowers designed just for you, incredible colours, some trip.”
Donovan. He probably invented flowers.
Arthur Askey
Very good!
I’m going for Siouxsie this time.
Nigel Planer as Neil from The Young Ones
John Otway … although he was wary of flowers because they’re going to get you yeh)
No one’s even remotely close so far.
Debbie Harry?
Macca
Kate Bush oddly enough I was playing her music in the car this week. and reading the book.
Spot on. Middle class hippyish family, I’d guess. Far out. If you have the book, that’s not fair!
Nothing in the book about bees just thought Kate was a possibility.
Not at the same time, I trust.
I could have been driven, but bedtime reading actually.
Is it Johnny Rotten?
Last one then:
“Christy Moore once said that songs are floating around in the air all the time, melodies, phrases. You’ve got to pluck them down out of the air, otherwise they’ll drift by and Paul Simon or some other bastard will get ’em. Mind you, he’d probably had a few when he said that.”
Shane MacGowan?
Bosh! That’s the fella.
Richard Thompson?
Val Doonican
Try this one:
“She went away from the village in disgrace. She came back with powder and paint upon her face; she’d rings on her fingers, and she wore a sable coat.”
This was Robert Wyatt, talking about Polly Harvey.
Can I change my mind? Graham Norton, talking about Susan Boyle. Or the other way round.
Ha ha – it’s sir Val of Doonican isn’t it? Paddy McGinty’s Goat?
Sounds like a Richard Thompson lyric.
