I was standing outside the X-Ray Department of Bedford Hospital today waiting for a lift, when a stranger approached me.
‘What do you suppose they’re building their then?’ he asked nodding towards some building work going on opposite the A&E.
Me: ‘Er … Not sure’.
Him: ‘A Refugee Centre?’
Me: ‘eh?’
Him: ‘Could be – park the boats over there ..?’ He pointed vaguely towards some parked cars.
Me: ‘Wouldn’t bother me.’
He walked off, chuckling.

I love the Bedfordshire coast it’s so bracing.
Yep, I’ve had that.
Almost certainly in no danger of living near or knowing anyone remotely exotic, and don’t for one moment find yourself downwind of his record collection.
(Mortified at using ‘their’ rather than ‘there’ btw). Long day.
Well it’s their then, and they can do what they like with it.
They’re they’re, don’t worry about it.
Let us not forget Rupert Lowe MP mistaking charity rowers raising money for MND off the coast of Great Yarmouth for “illegal migrants”.

Anyone who can “miss” Dover by 96 nautical miles gets my support.
I made a rare foray onto Facebook today. Second post on my feed was a “I’m worried about this, are you?” comment on asylum seekers from an old school mate. Loads of old school acquaintances agreeing that it is terrible that all asylum seekers are rapists etc.
I resolve not to go on Facebook again.
Just the topical banter of Summer 2025? I hope that ten years from now, we will not look back at these sorts of conversations as a sign of an historical turn to something worse.
Well said, sir!
