I have come across news of one of those comprehensive box set thingies for The Who’s My Generation full of stuff that Pete has only recently discovered (funny that). It looks good though at over 80 sovs, it bloody well ought to be. Does anyone better informed than me know anything about this ?
Given my pathetic teenage like infatuation with The Who, I’d probably forego eating for a week to invest in this, but would be good to know if anyone offer some insight on these new recordings.
Thanks

My friends don’t cause me to bankrupt myself.
(no wait… they do)
My Generation, you say?
LP – original 1965 Brunswick pressing

Very nice, deeply envious.
Three CDs worth of content spread over 5
Exactly, nearly all previously released (2 disc set a decade or so ago) and the demos have been recently touched up apparently as in had parts added.
The “New Stereo Version” also has new overdubs recorded by Roger & Pete recently. Just what you expect from the guys who added “newly recorded improved vocals” to a “deluxe reissue” of Live At Leeds.
You are right. I was going to correct myself, the demos may well be untouched. For Live at Leeds deluxe I though the only thing they did was dub Entwistle’s bass from the Leeds show on to the Hull show.
This is the version I have:

My Dad was at the Hull show.
“What was it like Dad?”
“…er, about half past three”
The long winter evenings… etc.
re. Live At Leeds: Roger Daltrey recorded new vocals for parts of “Magic Bus” and “My Generation” for the 1995 remaster. There was a half-second glitch in the master tape on “Magic Bus” during a guitar part. To cover this, Townshend re-recorded his guitar, also in 1995 (the Japanese SHM edition credits these parts). All versions since then have these improvements on, apparently, the “best live album ever”.
Always thought the lean mean 6 track original is the most superior version.
Again, I might just stick with my £3 mono CD and, bought in about 1985, £3.99 Virgin LP.
At least they’re not rehashing Tommy and/or Quadrophenia this month.
There’s still a few days left in the month, Deram – don’t tempt them!
I’m not too sure I didn’t see advertised that they’re doing Tommy again next year. So 2018 must be Quadrophenia!
McCartney would be hung out to dry if he routinely revisited Sgt. Pepper’s and Abbey Road every two years.
But Tommy is going to be a rare “acoustic”version.
Recorded by Pete in his shed last Tuesday.
I recall that the CD of My Generation was held up for years due to the long running legal wrangle with Shel Talmy and was the last major Who album to appear on disc.
