A future purchase, most likely. I’ve got the Fisherman’s Box set on my i-pod at the mo and The Magnificent Seven for later in the year. I’m all maxed out on Waterboys for now. Original album is one of my favourites though.
I’ve been waiting for this for months, since I heard Mike Scott discuss it on a podcast.
I found the Magnificent Seven box a bit hit and miss, some of it was a bit rough and ready (boombox cassette tapes). Of historical interest, but will I play them more than once?
I should add, I bought the piano demos (which are CD2) years ago, and played it once, and some of the other tracks in the box are on The Secret Life of the Waterboys odds and ends compilation, which is brilliant and I played lots.
So, roughly speaking, 6CDs in the box and I have already heard half of them.
Also looking forward to it and ordered from the tax dodgers for £79. As far as l’m concerned, it’s the middle one from their three great albums. Roll on February.
Indeed @Jaygee– saw them back in October and they were better without Steve Wickhan and I never thought I would hear myself say that.
Mine too has been ordered. First essential purchase of 2024,
The Waterboys’ “Fisherman’s Box” was simply fantastic. 6CDs in a clamshell. All excellent stuff. Price? I think it was about £22. Many, many thumbs-up.
The “Magnificent Seven” boxed set was available in a deluxe version, or a cheaper version. I went for the cheaper one – think it cost about £35 at the time. 2CDs of wonderful stuff – the other four discs were less essential.
And now we have 1985, the box of the stellar “This is the Sea” album. And it seems to be available in this limited deluxe 6CD edition only. £80 in the UK. More than that when ordered within the EU. I think I’m going to have to skip it. What a pity.
I was a bit disappointed with the musical content of the Magnificent Seven. I’ve been meaning to cherry pick the set but I’ve been too busy listening to new stuff. First World probs eh?
Yes, the WB box sets have all come out as big box with a big book or CD-sized “clam-shell” box with a booklet. The only difference was FB, which had an extra CD in the big box, a compilation of mostly Irish folk. MS would just post a Spotty playlist nowadays.
I see that ‘Atlantic Rain’ is on its way. To paraphrase Dennis Pennis’s interview with Demi Moore, I wonder if Mike Scott had ever discovered something from Fisherman’s Blues sessions and considered not releasing it?
Available now from the tax dodgers for less than £75.
Ordered mine today with delivery at the end of February.
Good price, however MUST STOP BUYING BOX SETS!!!
Was just thinking the same myself.
Problem is every halfway decent anniversary
album now requires about 5 CDs and a coffee
Table book

Future purchase? There’s only 3000 so I reckon these will go fast but I reckon a lesser box will be announced when these sell out.

I’ve still ordered it, though!
95 tracks, 64 unreleased
Obviously I’ve ordered from the band’s site. Only 3000, if they sell those from the band’s site the likes of Amazon will have none
This has happened before

Recent releases have been a bit patchy, but they’re still
doing the business live

The Magnificent Seven box was around the same presale price until it was released, and about a week after it was down to £35.

Quite. Lovely book, though.
Just a heads-up to those that are wavering – the box set is currently available to pre-order for £61.99 with free postage at Chalky’s.

That’s the cheapest I’ve seen it by some margin.
Safely received…listening now, and enjoying it immensely.
So SDE shows the artist’s own store is more expensive than most other providers.
That’s most often the case.
Cheaper albeit somewhat less lavish set coming soon if not already available
Much as I love the WBs, I’m giving this a miss as will probably struggle to play the whole set more than once
