One of Rod’s biggest songs features the chorus lyric “IF you want my body AND you think I’m sexy…”.
Yeah? So what? Well – have you noticed that at no point does he say “”Do ya think I’m sexy?” . Someone must have decided to do that because the lyric as it stands doesn’t work. Perhaps “IF You Want My Body” was a bit racy – so they paraphrased the whole vibe of the song. They also added a playful “ya” rather “you”.
But they didn’t. Rodders is outlining the conditions on which he is prepared to get his winkie out. He’s not asking if the other party thinks he is sexy. He’s saying IF you think he’s sexy. He’s not directly asking the question.
Also – I would say IF and OR would also be acceptable conditions. At this point I can’t remember if he is quoting a lady saying these words. It has been a while since I heard it.
Still – the central point stands. The title is not in keeping with song’s lyric. We have standards here at the Afterword so it needs to be out in the open.
