Raymond on the wee teams dreaming of glory
Several days of cold weather meant that the morning of the third round of the Scottish Cup was a time of anxiety for the roving fan with hopes of taking in a game. I had picked five possible venues within reasonable driving distance, but overnight frost meant that pitch inspections were taking place at most of them. As information about postponements started to filter through, I was relieved to discover that perhaps the most intriguing tie -Bonnyrigg Rose versus Dumbarton- was going ahead. The Bonnyrigg twitter feed posted this simple and joyous message shortly after completion of their pitch inspection:
“We are … ON!!!! To the bodies that were here yesterday and in darkness this morning – Legends.”
I assume the rest of the post is in hyper-space?
Not much of a game I expect.
Just whetting our appetites I reck
I’ve been having problems logging in and posting over the last week or so. I’ve changed my password several times, signed in on different devices etc. There are times when I’ve been logged in and tried to post something, but I’ve been notified that I ‘need to be logged in’ in order to post. It’s weird and very frustrating. I’ve emailed the mods a few times, but no-one has got back to me.

@raymond – I’ve just spotted this comment — feel free to PM me with the problems you’ve been having with the site and I will see if I can find out what’s going on ..
Thx
Rich
And why is everything in italics? What have you done?
@mikethep … the italics should be gone now… 🙂
It’s official – Raymond has broken the internet
And, by the by Raymondo, my admiration for your writing just grows and grows – you are the Samuel Pepys of Scottish Football. Are you single, any chance we can marry?
Lean times.
Bonnyrigg Rose won and now go on to meet the mighty Hibernian in the next round. Exciting times these!
I too was there @raymond and you brought the game alive, once again, with your keenly observed, witty and descriptive writing.
I love this kind of football. What I mean is, the kind of football where you can hear the ref managing the game; see and hear the gaffer working the players from the back – and front; get real close to the fans who live and breathe the struggle, sometimes in quite an ugly way and you can bring your dog and your wee tinies. Who can run on and have a go at half time. It’s all kinds of special.
I thought the Dumbarton keeper was on fire. As I stood behind his goal, I could hear the power behind the shots he took on the chin. A true gladiator. If only on a part time basis.
I’m glad Bonnyrigg won the replay. Their hunger carries them on to greater glory.
Oh, the romance of it all…..
I wanted to hear more about your young self, playing at being a social historian. More next time please!
Oh and I love the Lou Reedness. What a great album.
Nice work ❤️
Thanks for the kind comments, folks.
I can’t log in from home or from my phone at the moment – no idea why. I can only sign-in from a computer at work, which limits my options somewhat.
And I have no idea what is causing the ‘italics thing’ to happen.
Re: Italics.
It looks as though, because your O.P. finished in italics, the rest of the thread is continued in Italics.
Which is peculiar.
A blog programming glitch?
Could well be – this review has the same issue.
@Bargepole — this Queen – Nights In post should be ..er.. de-italicised now 🙂
Excellent – thank you @rich
The opening post is the only one you can’t edit once it’s up, hence the italics reign of terror.
Italics everywhere problem should be OK now… 🙂
