This event is imminent – it’s this Monday and I am very much looking forward to it. We have four confirmed attendees which is equivalent to an attendance of 53.333 on a per capita basis for UK-based mingle.
I dare say that an Auckland pub on a Monday night will probably not be heaving, but I am thinking that there should be some kind of visual cue to save the embarrassment of sidling up to a hapless “civilian”, nudging him and saying “that Richard Thompson, eh?”.
To help avoid that, I am 6’5″ tall and these days I am nearly as wide. I’d be a terrible undercover agent. I would say @nick-duvet is about 6ft and he is clearly a finely-tuned athlete as there are no visible signs of middle-aged spread. Either one or both of us will be centrally placed and open to approaches.
Where? The Northern Steamship Company (it’s a pub), Quay Street, Auckland.
When? 7:30pm Monday 13th November 2017
The invitation remains open to anyone. Are you a hitherto-unknown lurking person? When TV’s Fraser Lewry appeared at the first NZ Mingle in 2011, he said that for every contributing forum person there’s at least another two that just read the posts. If that sounds like you, please do feel free to come along.
Of course we all know what @mousey looks like…I’ll just head for the tallest bloke in the room. Do we call you Black?
I look like someone who used to be 6′ but isn’t any more. Now that I’m old I carry my middle-aged spread as a reminder of my lost youth. Silver-haired bonce but probably more hair under my nose and on my chin these days. I will be carrying a rolled-up copy of the International Times.*
*Probably not.
@mikethep My real name in real actual life is Austin.
Looks like I’ll be the shortest bloke there then. Despite that very much looking forward to it
Is anyone else planning to attend Mousey’s performance on the old Joanna this Saturday? @mikethep I think you said you might be
Yes I am…you?
Yes, I will message you contact details
Thanks gents – I really enjoyed it.
Headline – We were thrown out of two (count ’em) TWO pubs.
Backstory – it’s Monday night in Auckland and it’s common for a pub to throw in the towel early doors if it’s deemed too quiet. As an Englishman, I view this as a violation of human rights as I think pubs in the UK are required by law to stay open until 11pm.
