I’m duty bound to announce this as your Hull correspondent. as with most reunions I’m not sure if it’s that good an idea but of course we shall watch with interest.

Perhaps they got back together because they know roughly when the world will end….

Brilliant and good to see Jeremy K is back in the fold.
Having seen the RGs get mentioned here a few weeks back, I emailed Hallam and his wife Josie, both of who I was at Hull Uni with in the mid-70s. Assuming all is well and the tour goes ahead as planned, I’d love to fly over to see them. Be great if they played the Welly on Beverly Road which was not far from where I lived on one of the roads of Spring Bank.
Moose the Mooche says
I think we should clarify that you mean Jeremy Kidd, warbly singer and owner of one of the most startling mullets of his generation – lest people think that this reunion has led to the unwarranted comeback of the Toothless People Shouting At Each Other Hitmaker, Jeremy Kyle.

Cor blimey!
Whatever next? The Jam? Stealers Wheel?
Moose the Mooche says
I don’t think the Wheel will be happening any time soon. I heard Gerry wants to tour City to City with the original band and Bob Holness is proving elusive.

I only saw them once – when they blew the Smiths off stage as their support.
Moose the Mooche says
The poster for that is in the article – signed by Mozzer in wax crayon, by the look of it.

And as our official Hull correspondent, Moose should point out that today’s Google Doodle is Clive Sullivan. A man who was a hero to both HKR and HFC. So good we named the main road out of Hull after him. Taken far too young.
Moose the Mooche says
I was wondering who that was. Yes, Sully is a lercal legend. I assume that there’s Hull theme emerging and future Google doodles will feature Norman Collier and Ronnie Pickering.
paulwright says
I met Norman Collier once – in Holland and Barrett. Yes, he did the microphone thing. (he knew my mother who sang in nightclubs)
Took my kids on an educational trip to Bransholme at the weekend (after going to Spurn Point for the first time in my life). They were most amused. Drove them back past Spiiiiders.

I remember seeing The Red Guitars at Spaaaaders… 😏

I’ve been away too long – I can’t get the accent right any more.

Nice blahnds.
Jaygee says
Not 100% convinced by his accent but then he confesses that his Dad came from West Yorkshire.
We need to find out his favorite album, if it’s David Peel and the Lower East Side’s The Perp Smerks Derp, he’s in
Moose the Mooche says
…it’s still got the two-narnty-narn sticker on it.
hubert rawlinson says
I was at college with someone from Hull his pronunciation of “round a roundabout ” was something to cherish.
Jaygee says
Sounds like you got it in Binns…
Moose the Mooche says
Ner, Syd Scaaaaborough!
Keef says
Yawn. Early singles were good but most of their debut album is mediocre. 2nd album is worse.
I also saw them support the Smiths but unfair to say they blew Morrissey et al off the stage. As I remember both bands were rubbish that night. The highlight was Sandie Shaw replacing Morrissey for I Don’t Owe You Anything, a tantalising glimpse of how good the Smiths might have been with a decent singer.
paulwright says
I think you do have to like 2 completely different styles of music to like both albums. Luckily for me, I do.
Steady says
I’m hanging on for the Danny & The Casablanca Boys reunion tour – starting of course at The Waterfront..
Black Type says
Oh, yes! They were brilliant on a Wednesday night out. See also: Ain’t Misbehavin’.
