I quite fancy one of these dates too Steve but April or even May is surely too soon to take a punt isn’t it? Never seen the Furs live…what were/are they like?
I do have quite a lot of time for the new album so may give this tour more consideration. The Albert Hall is the most obvious gig for me but I’d prefer somewhere smaller really.
Wife’s sister’s hubby took me to Rock City to see them last tour, with the very, erm, something, Wendy James as support.
Ver Furs were very good actually, speaking as some who knows them pretty much only for “that one”.
I noticed on the Junction website that Wendy James is gigging again.
I saw Transvision Vamp at university and all I can remember is she came on stage in her undercrackers. My memory is rather hazy, it being 33 years ago (and drink had been taken). I think Rigid was also there, apparently they played a song twice. I just remember it all being a bit crap.
In the mid-90s I saw Catatonia at the Phoenix festival and Cerys pulled the same stunt. I thought they were crap, too.
Only band I’ve ever seen play the same song twice at the same gig was It Bites. Also at University in the 80s, although it was Leeds, so much more gritty than Reading.
Seen them a couple of times in the last 5 years or so. Worth seeing still , was basically a best of set which was fine with me. Will probably play a lot of last years album which was a bit one paced for me. Butler is still a bit of a ham and Mars Williams, the saxophonist, does an awful lot of parping whilst resembling Freddie Starr.
I saw them on the last tour in Dublin and really enjoyed it. I hadn’t seen them since the Book of Days tour. To my surprise, I enjoyed more of the big-in-the-USA stuff than the classic early stuff. Good guitarist too and they didn’t seem to take themselves too seriously.
This is gonna date me but I saw the Furs in 1981 on the Talk Talk Talk tour, only knew the single Pretty in Pink and they played this club (it was usually a Discotheque) called Rotters, they were brilliant, love the first three albums. Did give the new album a listen last year and it sounded good….

They were great in 1990. Book Of Days is a fave LP.
Amanda Kramer plays keys with them now and she’s great. And lovely.

For a moment I though Rigid might be a chez Fenton reference to his, um, manhood, until I remembered Mr Digit.

Psych Furs at Nottingham Rock City. Have the last 40 years even happened?
fentonsteve says
I live in 1995, so the last 25 years certainly haven’t.

I have a couple of very grainy photos to prove it.

Their tour has been postponed until next spring. I’m sad to say That John Ashton(original Furs guitarist and songwriter) has cancer and Gail Ann Dorsey(bass player for David Bowie for many years) has started a campaign to raise some money to help John and his family in this difficult time. Please read Gail’s words here – https://www.gofundme.com/f/rn6gr6-xxxxx?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cp%20share-sheet&fbclid=IwAR0EEaHqARMaP5asaxx-6ELG7QLocip_F5fk4xxuxvyTky66NGPcL41J6xY
