Probably well known to a number here, The Musical Box are a band from Montreal that recreate Peter Gabriel era Genesis in a live setting.
They are doing a “Genesis 1973” tour. I went primarily to keep a mate company. I like this era of Genesis, but am by no means a massive fan. It was also in a small venue with excellent sound which helps.
And they were truly excellent, amazing musicianship. I could almost imagine it was Gabriel on stage, apparently recreating the original stories/introductions without a trace of a French Canadian accent. I didn’t love all the songs, but all were recreated with much conviction. Special mention to “Phil Collins” who was superb throughout. A fun night out after escaping a massive thunderstorm on the outside.
The audience:
As you would expect
It made me think..
Think setlist was same as this one:

73 the only time I saw Genesis, Reading Festival. I recall a hydraulic pyramid with Gabriel’s head poking through the top. His eyes had UV makeup on. At least I now know what they played.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Ha!
I’ve seen them. Really excellent. They have some of the original band’s equipment and costumes too. I went with @feedback_file who whispered to me “I feel like I’ve gone back in time to Newcastle City Hall in 1971”.
Yes I had heard props and costumes were original in some cases. Backdrop looked vintage. Should have mentioned lighting was very good too
Seen them several times, across different re-created tours. Very good indeed. Glad you enjoyed it.
