Ordinarily I would agree with you but we have a friend from Normandy who sounds like she was an extra on ‘Allo ‘Allo and is the only person I have ever heard say “Ooh la la” as a regular part of their conversation. She also does that Gallic Shrug thing while exclaiming something like “bff”.
“bff…”? I’ve always though it more a ‘bwwluuergh…’, accompanied by that shrug. Add different intonations to it and various gestures and it becomes a whole sentence in French. 🙂
PS The current series is the best yet, in my view.

I shall say this only once… I know the actor previously known as stranded RAF airman Flt. Lt. Carstairs.
Even now, he looks like he’s just climbed out of a wicker blanket box.
Absolutely brilliant show. If you’re a fan of crime drama and this has passed you by I’d start a series one and you’ll be hooked.
It’s gritty, funny, labyrinthine and heartbreaking – highly recommend.
I think this bloke, with his Gallic shrug, as he plays “Le jazz” must be in with a shout.
