An 8-CD box comprising the studio albums “Tutu”, “Amandla” & “Doo Bop”, the film soundtracks “Siesta” & “Dingo” and live albums “Live with Quincy Jones At Montreux”, “Miles Davis Live Around The World” & “At The Nice Festival”.
“The package is presented in a stiff black clamshell box with each of the 8x CDs in its own sleeve complete with original artwork. A high-quality 60-page booklet details the history, development and production of all the music, complete with genuinely engrossing & literate essays penned by people like Ashley Khan and Leonard Feather.
The music is all remastered to perfection and the sound (even the live-on-stage stuff) is excellent. At the offer price, it’s a steal.”
I expect it’s available from other retailers, if spending money with Amazon is not your preference.

Sorry. I can’t help these sudden movements, I’ve got St Vitus, I’m on pills for me nerves.

There is a 20-CD set “The Complete Miles Davis At Montreux 1973-1991” released in 2002.
2x hardcover albums with 10 CDs in each, plus a 50-page book with liner notes, photos and drawings by Miles, track listings, credits etc.
Disc 19 is the one with Quincy Jones in the above set. Disc 20 is the Nice Festival recording from the above set.
It was exceedingly expensive and waaaaay beyond my budget at time of release. About £350 IIRC.
I did manage to acquire a fair proportion of it as mp3s, though.
It’s currently available (used) from Amazon from £175. Or £1000.44 new if you’re demented and have too much money for your own safety.
Amazon reviews concur that the packaging is pretty shoddy and imply that the 2 albums of discs tend to fall apart if you look at them too hard.
JQW says
That review is correct – my set has fallen apart badly, due to the glue coming undone.

Actually I’ve got a chazza copy of Amandla, and it’s decidedly meh. The ’80s, eh?

Good deal, but there’s also a 20cd ‘The Perfect Miles Davis’ collection for 40 squids from Amazon too! Now that’s value!

Got it and it has led me to owning another 20+ MD CDs. Someone else with an addiction.

A mere 20 CDs is barely skimming the surface of Miles’ long and (mostly) prolific career.
The Montreux Album with Quincy Jones is superb, even if Miles was pretty ill at the time and most of the trumpet playing you hear is Wallace Roney. It’s a great rare blast through the Miles/Gil Evans back catalogue.
The Live Around The World album is a pretty good selection from that end part of his career.
I was not greatly struck by Amandla or Tutu. Too much Marcus Miller influence. Maybe remastering has improved them, though.
I’ve never heard Doo Bop or Dingo. Siesta is good and the Nice Festival album is pretty good too.

I hate when you have most of a box set but there are enough that you dont have that have you teetering.
Amandla was a bit meh. Tutu better, Siesta good and Around the the World , the live album is really good. Don’t expect to hear much Miles though this is probably a good thing. I have a tape of a show I saw in Melbourne late in the career and sounded a lot worse than I remember. Bum notes abound. Band were shit hot of course.

Better still (and cheaper) is the French 5-CD set “Miles Davis: The Warner Years 1986 – 1991”, which includes everything from “The Last Word”, plus a disc with Miles’ guest appearances (Chaka Khan, Scritti Politti). Only it’s not spread across those fancy “replica sleeve” 40 min. discs…

Sorry to change the subject, but I suspect you chaps (and chapesses) will know…
If a cove was wanting to listen to more Charlie Parker, where should he start?
(you don’t have to tell me about Miles – though 20x80s CDs is a bit more than I need)

How does 10 CDs for £35 sound? If so, I can recommend Bird: The Complete Charlie Parker On Verve

If you like some “old” here’s another bargain set which I bought yesterday in FOPP: 4 LPs, 3 CDs with additional tracks and a nice little booklet, a 7″ single plus a download code for extra songs, all in a big box for the cost of a Friday night round of drinks.
It’s not much more expensive at Amazon:
