Here’s an interesting piece published in today’s Sydney Morning Herald (I’ve run it through the wonderful archive.md site so hopefully you can read it). Actually it’s originally from The Telegraph in London so if anyone here takes that rag you may have seen it. Anyway, I found it really interesting. Obviously getting the gig on a Bond theme is just about the apex of any songwriter’s career.

Here’s another one that never got to the Broccoli stable. Featuring the late great Renee Geyer on vocals. Lyrics by the late New Zealand songwrter/artist/everything Fane Flaws, music by yours truly
Looks like that archive link I supplied may not work

Thanks
The original worked fine for me.
The Herald allows only so many free looks before the paywall goes up ..
Continuing my Scott Walker theme, this was recorded for The World is Not Enough closing credits. It’s nice to hear a 60s type vocal when he was well into his hyper experimental phase:
And the there are these that never made it past first audition
The James Bond offering starts at 2:22
Wonderful stuff @rigid-digit,
The Coppola one was wonderful.
What a very enjoyable thread, @Mousey
Danish band Swan Lee was one of the groups that did a song called “Tomorrow Never Dies” in the hope of getting that gig. I rather like it:
Pulp did one, Tomorrow Never Lies, which was rejected, so they used it as a b-side of Help The Aged.
They wrote and recorded it in 24 hours (or over a weekend – I’ve just read the drummer’s book) during the fraught and protracted This Is Hardcore album sessions. I think it is my (and his) favourite track from the time, which goes to show that sometimes less really is more.
I think in the past we’ve mentioned Goldfrapp in connection with Bond themes. Especially ‘Stranger’, from Tales Of Us, where the orchestra comes in. ‘Clay’ from the same album would work, too.
