Fans of Bob Dylan and music in general might like this show from earlier today on Radio 4, where musician/satirist Mitch Benn spends half an hour discussing Bob’s effect on songwriting, singing and being a Rock Star. It’s very funny, entertaining, and edumakational – what more do you want? Next week he does a similar thing for Bowie called Mitch Benn and the Fat Pink Duke.

How long before we get a snarkey ‘ I hate Mitch Benn ‘ cos he’s on the radio with that Punt & Dennis’ comment?
Just saying.
I like Punt & Dennis more than I like Mitch Benn. He is humorous rather than funny.
Oh, it’s nothing to do with Punt and Dennis.
I’d agree with that.
Thanks Mini. I enjoyed that a lot. His comments on the Maria Carey legacy were right on the money.
Made me realise I should try to listen to more BBC radio shows.
What’s all this Punt and Dennis talk? Weren’t they a 90s thing?
There are few more deflating experiences than switching on Radio 4 at 6:30 on a Friday evening. hoping to hear The News Quiz or something just as mildly entertaining and finding yourself listening to Punt and Dennis’ The Now Show.
The Now Show is dire, but we saw a P & D gig a couple of years ago, and they were very good.
Just be clear: THIS PROGRAMME ON BOB DYLAN IS A PUNT AND DENNIS-FREE ZONE.
I saw his “I’m the 37th Beatle” show a couple of years ago and whilst it didn’t have me constantly rolling in the aisles, it was a perfectly amenable way to spend a couple of hours on a Thursday night.
Outside of the cricket, BBC Four Extra is all I listen to, and….erm….I actually quite enjoy ‘The Now Show’.
It’s where I get my news.
Indeed, it only tends to go downhill AFTER the opening ten minutes of Punt & Dennis.
‘Dead Ringers’ is the one I can’t stand.
Afraid I’m completely Bowied out (avoiding him rather than listening to him) but I’ll try and catch the Dylan one that’s being repeated next Tuesday on Four Extra.
Hmmmm, he’s OK. Quite enjoyed the 37th Bealtle one, and bits of the Dylan one were on the money, even a couple of the parodies, but musical parodies do not a comic make, even if your between banter is sub Radcliffe shouty.
