Banged on for ages about why the mags didn’t do proper one-artist CDs… and finally they are. Ahead of the curve again.
60s Soul (Mojo), Small Faces, Doors (both Uncut)… Ladies & Gentlemen, you have the best three releases in 2025 and it’s cost you very little.
Is it too soon to book a Beatles’ version come the anniversary of Rubber Soul?
A couple of tracks from each of the various box sets which few Beatles’ fans have bought (10 tracks) with the ’65 and ’66 Christmas Flexis tacked on at the end… strewth, I’m doing their job for them.
Can’t see a Beatles-only or a Bowie-only coverdisc being sanctioned by the rights owners, but it’d be interesting to be proved wrong.
Decca-era Stones a possibility.
These one-artist discs are promotion tools and are financed by the record company. Apple already did a Lennon sampler for Uncut, so who knows – someone might think that the next Beatles release might need an extra push… and when the big Tin Machine box arrives it may „need“ a taster in the form of a Mojo Bowie disc. Fingers crossed.
Mojo’s Pulp rarities CD is similarly excellent, if you like that king of thing.
Fab cover CD on the May Mojo too – all sorts of Irish mayhem on that one!
…and the one before that was a fair dinkum Prog sampler.
…and the Uncut Small Faces disc was a bit of a riot come to that.
All in all, a great run of stuff on free CDs this last few months.
Anyone unable, through unfortunate geographical mislocation, to avail themselves of these little gems, drop us a line…
And a very good Wilco one too (Uncut), they are available via mail order overseas or in certain retail outlets (at least a month after UK publication)
Yeah agree with Foxy a great run for both. Long may the competition run. They do seem to spur each other on.
