The marvellous Light In The Attic record label have taken it upon themselves to reissue an album that I rhapsodised about with @ganglesprocket and my good friend, Spencer on the not at all missed 33 & A Nerd podcast.
Carole King’s “band” The City released their one and only LP in 1968 and its no one hit blunder, packed full of tunes, Goffin and King gems and ideas that would sell by the shitload on ‘Tapestry’. Incomprehensibly unavailable for many a year but soon to be discovered all over again – I recommend this upcoming release to the Massive.

Ditto. This album is brilliant in every way. It’s actually perfect. There isn’t a bad tune on it. I literally cannot think of a single person of my acquaintance who wouldn’t like it.

I miss the 33 And a Nerd podcast, and am grateful to it for bringing that record to my attention. There’s definitely something strangely zeitgeist-y about it. Mary Epworth covered a song from it last year.

*I just bought the reissue by `Spring` of their one and only album, which I had originally but is probably residing in a dimension far, far away. It is a thing of beauty.

Yeah, I can see why they both existed in the early `70`s but very different. Being a Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fan I will have to investigate the American Spring.

Interesting. Funnily enough, yesterday the postie delivered my new shiny 24 bit remastered etc etc copy of the first album by The Section, much admired over the years as the rhythm section behind anyone who is anyone on the US West Coast. Not played it yet but the combination of Leland Sklar, Danny Korchmar, Russ Kunkle and Craig Doerge is irresistable.
I will investigate The City, though without hearing it I know it isn’t better than Tapestry.

Ho ho. Bit of all your suggestions, with added dickheadness thrown in. I bet The City albums is good though.
It’s lovely, and very much of its time. But if it was really as good as Tapestry it would be as well-known. Tapestry is one of those albums that actually has some kind of cultural significance which lifts it out of being just a record with some tunes on it.
