Author:Felix Francis
For the uninitiated, Felix is the son of champion jockey and long time bestselling author Dick Francis, After collaborating on some of the latter’s final novels, he took over the mantle full time after his father’s passing, and has carried on the family tradition ever since. Although the novels usually have a horse racing background to a greater or lesser extent, in this case the sport of kings is very much in second place as the crux of the story focuses on the art world. A dealer in equine paintings is accused of selling a fake and finds himself at the mercy of the police as well as on the wrong end of a potentially ruinous lawsuit. Soon, his gallery is attacked, its contents defaced and he is subjected to a vicious physical assault. He struggles to try and prove his innocence before his business is destroyed, or perhaps even worse, and discover who is behind his relentless persecution. If you’ve read any of the previous novels, you’ll certainly enjoy this taut thriller, which keeps the action coming thick and fast, and has a satisfying twist in the final denouement. Another very entertaining and enjoyable read by this ever-reliable author who seemingly never fails to deliver.
Length of Read:Medium
Might appeal to people who enjoyed…
His previous books, the original Dick Francis thrillers – you certainly don’t need to be a fan of horseracing to enjoy them.
One thing you’ve learned
This is now the author’s 20th novel so he has obviously inherited his father’s tale telling talent.
