Sunday sees two teams facing off against each other in the final match of one of the world’s great sporting competitions. The culmination of months of training, preparation and self-sacrifice. The victors will be feted and the losers will not acknowledge any glory in being runners-up.

I am of course talking of the All-Ireland Men’s Senior Hurling Final. Firm favourites Limerick will face off against Galway in Croke Park on Sunday afternoon. Our team Clare put in a good shift this year but were beaten by Limerick in the semis two weeks ago. For those in the UK or with the BBC i-player, you can watch the game live from 3.00pm. It will be guaranteed end-to-end excitement from the start with no slow build ups. Players will get knocked down and they will get up again – no rolling about and clutching at imaginary hurty shins. Scores will come thick and fast. Referee’s decisions will be accepted without dissent (in the main). There will be no crowd trouble. Supporters will wear their teams colours and will roar them on passionately – but they will be mingled with supporters of the other team and neutrals, and any rivalry will be good-natured.
Make time for it if you can – you will not be disappointed. (probably – unless Limerick are way too strong and have it won by half-time). There’s some other game on later in the evening.
We can always tell what’s on in Croke Park as our road is used for parking by any supporters travelling from the South or West as it’s handy for the train into Dublin. We’ll have both Limerick and Galway shirts aplenty tomorrow no doubt.
Also England playing Argentina again (in rugby), Wales should have no problems against South Africa 😉 Both tomorrow

I’ve been done with international football for a long time, whether it’s tournaments or friendlies. The standards cannot compare to club football.
In the other game, I hope Gibraltar beat the Falklands into a cocked hat.
Thanks Max, for the heads-up. We’ll be watching this for certain. A year or two back we had the pleasure of watching this final from the bar of Keoghs in Ballyconneely – the best match-watching experience of my life.
