The first ever interview commission I got for a magazine was with the Betas, back in 1998, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, neither did they but we talked a lot about Dr John and their healthy disregard for journalists (“gangsters with pens!”). It was all very exciting. Steve and John’s then-girlfriends worked in the same bar as I did, and they’d come in for cheap chips and beer. They brought in a preview CD of Champion Versions which we played endlessly as we subsequently did The Three EPs, then the debut album soundtracked a whole chunk of my life. Wow, this has made me so happy
Dry The Rain is a fabulous and wonderful song.
Might get to see them this time. I knew Dry The Rain from High Fidelity, was late to the rest of their stuff, and as zi started to look for live dates, they split up.
Glasgow or Leeds? Both bloody miles away, mind.
I managed to get tickets for the Weedge. Watched their mad, marvellous video compilation DVD in celebration.
