It’s such an improvement on the dreary plod of the original. Much to love here, from the spoken intro to the cheery (and mercifully brief) da-da-da- dardely-da coda.
(The album, a side project of genius producer Ted Templeton, has similarly fabulous versions of Light My Fire, and McArthur Park, amongst other iconic rock pop n’ roll classics.)
God no. It’s irredeemable.
I want it played at my funeral. Yours, too.
Interesting and fun, but I prefer the magnificent (if a tad overplayed) original
If you don’t actually play a copy of it yourself, where do you get to hear the original in 2023?
If I put a date on the last time I heard it outside of my own 45 or CD – 2010 on the radio? Could have been 1990. Possibly once or twice in a chazzer in the last decade when they’ve been playing “1”.
There’s a Beatles channel (and a 60s one) over here on SiriusXM (satellite radio), classic rock radio on FM will play it too
You can overplay the original at home, simply by playing it once.
I’m with you, especially the promo film with all those horrible black and brown teenagers singing on stage with them.
Appalled… what were they thinking of?
There’s yer woke right there, writ large, that’s when the rot set in.
Speaking of AI, albeit a highly developed, niche example.
Ace album title..
Wilson Pickett for me but the absence of any redeeming features whatsoever on the Templeton Twins version makes this an impressive effort.
crap……
Fancy going out for a pint? Nobody’s stopping you …
All together now,
“We’ll drink a drink, a drink
To Lily the Pink, the Pink, the Pink
The saviour of the human race
For she invented medicinal compound
Most efficacious in every case”
eh? what?
Wondered that myself.
I knew that song before I knew The Beatles along with Thank you very much and the theme to the Liver Birds. Means I was first familiar with Macca’s brother before the man himself
*facepalm*
The “McArthur Park” on that album is rather good.
As the sleeve notes put it – “this is an album to watch … and, perhaps, even to listen to.”
So, so much better than the original. I thank you HP, may your crisps always be cheese & onion
I enjoyed it so much I nearly played my C. W. Stoneking LP.
Perfect for 4:20AM when you got up for a pee 2 hours ago and couldn’t get back to sleep.*
*This is a compliment.
The rest of the album is quite as good. Very fond of “Light My Fire.”
I’ve just downloaded it.
Nah.
(Repeat when necessary).
