I liked this when it was released earlier this year. I haven’t been enraptured by what I have heard of Michael Buble’s other work, but this is just soulful joy. It was on the radio again last night and I really enjoyed hearing it – Van Morrison with Michael Buble, Real Real Gone.
What’s the best thing you’ve heard all month?

As I was reading this (great shout, BTW) this came up on the iPod.
I know nothing about them but I love this.
Response to the Micky Bubbles duet: it is great because it is a great song and Van is on top of his voice. The Bubble could be anyone, and, if owt, detracts from this excellent revisit.
So yah boo sucks to that!
I thought about that too, but I really like the way Mr B sings “Gene Chandler said ‘There’s a rainbow in my soul’ ” right at the end.
Funny old world where I’m defending “None More Radio 2 On A Sunday” himself, but this song lit up a dull day *inserts smiley*

It would be good to see/hear this as a duet with Sir George.
I’m going to say the Tin Spirits track “Summer Now” that Naillb posted down below. It’s a new one on me (even though it came out last year) and being a huge XTC fan it ticks all the right boxes. Album bought and loaded on the iPod for listening later tonight.
It’s still only a week into the month, so plenty of opportunity for more new surprises.
@chrisf As we used to say round these parts, ‘Have an Up’
This wasn’t a new discovery, but when it popped up on shuffle (after several years of dormancy, I reckon) it sounded so fresh, so inventive and surprising, so perfect for summer, that it felt as if I’d never heard it before. I love it when you fall in love with a song for a second time.

I couldn’t even tell you why, it just makes me smile.
… and this – not sure where we stand on Paul Kossoff, but I was very happy to be reminded of this when I was going through my vinyl collection prior to disposal.
Excellent question. I’m going to say two things; I heard this on Ricky Ross’s ‘Another Country’ and can’t stop playing it.
Also I thought this was fun and cleverly done;
Heard this lot today for the first time, wondering how the fuck they slipped thru’ the net, Eyeless in Gaza:
At the risk of causing an Afterword wide bout of groans and possible attacks of nausea, easily the best thing I have heard this month is the peaceful rhythm of my wife’s breathing as she lies next to me in the quiet hours of the pre-dawn mornings.
Next to that a slew of Harold Budd recordings and @tiggerlion talking to us on the phone.
no worries – I am with you on that. (hugs to you both)
The correct answer.
I’m really enjoying the latest Pressure Sounds compilation “Next Cut!”, containing a host of obsucre dubplates from Bunny Lee’s studios.
All the cuts featuring Vin Gordon & the Aggrovators are absolutely first rate.
Do you like the sound of the trombone in reggae? You do? Then step this way…
@jed-clampett ‘not sure where we stand on Paul Kossoff.’ I’ll tell you where we stand. We stand at the bottom of a fecking huge mountain, looking up at the magnificence of many, many guitarists. As we gaze up at Clapton, Beck, Page and Greeny, we notice, climbing, scrambling his way up the Celestial Mountain, is a scruffy 20 year old, blonde hair flowing, Sunburst Les Paul wailing. ‘Not sure where we stand on Paul Kossoff?’ In his huge, glorious fucking shadow, is where.

Who is it doing Man of Constant Sorrow ?
I think it is Blackberry Smoke

B.S. are a good band keeping that southern rock vibe going in a positive way.
It is indeed. They are coming to Europe in October/November and I am giving it very serious thought. I reckon they would be a great night out.

This which I heard in the background of an episode from the first series of the Danish drama, The Legacy.
@niallb Re. Kossoff.
Good to know. I am certainly no musician (I rock hard on Singstar though) so it is hard for me to know who is really good. I just know who I like, and I like him.
I know this was discussed, and not very positively elsewhere on the site, but I really like the new Four Tet album. Bold to do something with just two long tracks and it works really well.
If we are talking August then I must say I am loving the new Amazon Prime Music thingy. Better sound, less confusing than Spotify and no ad breaks mid-concept album playback. Listening to loads of new (and old) Prog, this came recommend by them. Willowglass are a new name and fairly Genesistenable.
This from O’Connell and Love (Featuring Rumer) – the whole album Minesweeping is excellent – go and buy it:-
Jeez, Steve, that is faaaabulous! Where’d you find that? How great to see Rumer losing the po face she seems to have gained with all those Bacharach link-ups and Karen Carpenter comparisons.
Retro, get the album – there is lots more of the same with other collaborations too. I think Larry Love’s voice has a similarity to Mark Lanegan on many tracks. His partner on the album is Brendan O’Connell – don’t know much about him other than he is a session musician but they have written together previously.
I have already ordered it direct from the website.
Yee and indeed hah!
The record that’s really grabbing me at the moment is the Greg Foat Group’s third studio album “The Dancers at the Edge of Time”. The band’s first two albums were great, but I think that they might have even trumped them with this beautiful, accessible set of dreamy, drifting instrumental jazz.
Recording in a church on the Isle of Wight, the band augment their line-up with guest woodwind and string sections, but the sound isn’t at all cluttered. On the contrary, it’s lazy, spacey and warm.
All the tracks can be heard on YouTube. Here’s one. Most emphatically recommended.
I very much like this. Jack Garratt – The Love You’re Given.
This! I’ve played it dozens of times & love it. An amalgam of songs from their new album, which I feel may well grow to be album of the year for me. Early days yet, but I am loving it so far. Have tried giving Titus Andronicus a listen before, but found it hard to get past Patrick Stickles hoarse gargle of a voice, but somehow, with this one it just clicked. Loving the lyrics. AND am very excited to have got tickets for their Bristol show in November. Grand job.
I found out today that Robble McIntosh is playing in my town on Tuesday* (it seems to be a surprise to everyone else too – it’s not mentioned on the venue’s or Robbie’s websites and I only found out through Facebook). I’ve spent the evening playing a few Youtube clips to familiarise myself, and love the solo on this one – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uf621Zd2rpc
The Bassment Club in Chelmsford, if you’re Essex based – a mere fiver on the door will get you in: https://www.facebook.com/events/504156153094062/
