Vim minor has just received an offer to read English at Cambridge. I know that this is all rather Mumsnet, but fuck I am proud. The first time this has happened in any number of generations of my family. All state school too.

No.1 son pulled off the same feat a fair few years ago. You might like to know that (to my great surprise) it was considerably cheaper getting him through Cambridge (rent etc) than it was getting the daughter through Nottingham. Something to do with 600 years of endowments and investments, perhaps.

She did it! Fell one point short of the required grade and thought she’d fallen short, but they phoned her at lunchtime and told her “come on in!” I am now halfway through a bottle of Prosecco, (no need for extravagance) and am overjoyed. My beautiful little girl. Whahey!
Excellent! Good for her! I remember when the Light’s daughter got a text a year ago, even before she had seen her results, confirming her place of choice and how thrilled she was. I’m getting secondary chills just thinking about it now.
