Musings on the byways of popular culture

She and Nigel spilt last year. She gave scant details on her Patreon, but it sounds like it was very painful.
Come to think of it, they split in spring 2019, before the tour for her most recent album Small World Turning. This might account for why the shows, which had both of them in the line up, were on the short side at the two nights I saw.
Wow, that sounds grim. Powerful writing from a very dark place.
The background information does make Thea’s relationship with Nigel Stonier sound pretty grim.
“Afterlight is a real account of one woman’s journey from an impressionable 16-year-old bound into a toxic working and romantic relationship with a man 23 years her senior, to a brand new artist and free woman finding her own beginning.”
The words to this new song are also disturbing, all of which comes as a huge shame. I’ve seen Thea and Nigel live many times and love the music that both of them make. They always seemed so well matched musically, but it sounds as if their lives together were far from idyllic. Changing your professional moniker does seem like an extreme step, and I only hope that Thea’s desire for a new start and some catharsis is not at the expense of the music she writes. I wish them both well.
She could have opted for a Stonier silence.
Powerful stuff. Good luck to her.
That is a turn up for the books.
From the little I know, she is a very talented singer-songwriter.
I am curious to hear her new stuff and wish her all the best.
Blimey that’s grim. I saw her a few times with him and she seemed to adore him…this was before them being a couple…you never know do you. Hope she’s OK.
They had been a couple since Thea was 16. She did her school work experience at Fairport’s Woodworm Studios where Nigel, then in his late 30s, was a technician.
I raised an eyebrow when I first realised the age difference but put it under the heading of, ‘It seems to have worked for them.’ Seems I was wrong.
Mmm well they were obviously a couple long before I realised.
For those of us with questions about this development Thea has issued a podcast where she is interviewed about her past and present life. It’s powerful, honest and raw and explains a lot about The Afterlight.

(I streamed it on Amazon, which isn’t within this link, so I guess it’s on most streaming platforms.)
