It’s easy to sneer at Bananarama, Belouis Some or Cutting Crew completists but the SDE site is a living testament that they exist and therefore there is a market for this stuff and I completely understand it.
A band like Bananarama wouldn’t be an obvious one for a comprehensive box set (although we all need a ‘rama ‘Best Of’ I reckon) but with them and a lot of other pop bands considered to be a bit naff or ephemeral there is a hardcore fanbase who want to chase down every b-side, remix, radio edit etc much of which won’t ever have been reissued since original release and only be available 2nd hand on badly pressed 80s vinyl or mangled cassette.
I can completely identify with the desire to hear one of your favourite band’s ‘deep cuts’ in glorious high definition. This won’t be an issue for digital era bands but for anyone pre-1990s that wasn’t considered ‘Box Set’ worthy your back catalogue might not be well archived at all.
Led Zep, , Floyd etc get endlessly remastered and reissued and their fans get their dreams fulfilled on a regular basis…no harm in 80s pop fans wanting a bit of that action too.?
Well argued Dr V! Let’s not be snobbish about this .
Yikes! The whole world of SDE is a bizarre one. For the really hardcore fans.
Then again I’m sure we all have a favourite band who we’d like to see given this kind of treatment. Mine might be Was (not Was). If someone produced a SDE with lots of new tracks I’d never heard, I might just be tempted.
I remember that, though I’d completely forgotten it until I saw your post @Carl. I taped off John Peel at the time and thought it was fab. Still doesn’t sound too shabby.
I’d rather have the Bananarama
What kind of hell do we inhabit where we have to choose? Please can I opt out?
Well said. Do we have to look down on pop music because it’s not made by old men with guitars. More pointless snobbery!
33 CD Bananarama? Pretty impressive they could scrape together enough material.
Are you sure that you’re not confusing them with legendary Fyffedelic girl trio, the Grateful Banana? Famous for jam sessions that went on for hours.
It’s 33 CD singles, each with every remix ever made. I wouldn’t buy it, but certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at it if it was a gift.
May be the first box set that ends with more discs than purchasers….
Big upsie for this from ivylander.
One has to take one’s hat off to the compilers. What next? A 20 CD boxset of Lieutenant Pigeon?
Not that I’m dissing the Cruel Summer Hitmakers. A fine pop band.
Apparently the price has just ‘dropped’ to £98. Yikes!
I don’t think I would want a 33cd Box Set of my favourite band even.
Here it is, although y’all probably guessed which website it was on.

I googled. The ‘Rama are in the Guinness Book of Records as the all-female group with the most chart entries in the world.
So they have, or at least have had, quite a few fans. But whether Bananaheads are as avid collectors as Deadheads is another matter.
“The most entries …” hurrrhurrr.
A bit of respect for the ‘Nanas please.
The first single was a classic Aie A Mwana – apparently it translates as How’s Your Mother.
There are many a good bands that would love have to had recorded something as insanely fun and funky as this:
I remember that, though I’d completely forgotten it until I saw your post @Carl. I taped off John Peel at the time and thought it was fab. Still doesn’t sound too shabby.
33 CDs of Bananarama! Does it include unreleased versions where they actually sing in harmony?
Me, I can’t wait for the 50 CD Jimmy The Hoover retrospective.
