My new favourite TV series.
Based on a great concept: 2 KGB Operatives living in 1980’s US as a “normal” American family; 2 kids, suburban home, 9-5 jobs. All while undertaking the dirty deeds of the Kremlin in the time of Cold War hysteria.
Great lead performances from Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as the spies
Particularly enjoy Noah Emmerich’s understated supporting role as the FBI Agent who is involved in their lives professionally and personally.
So if you like thrillers with great characters, intelligent writing and accurate period details, you will love this.
Its also got John-Boy Walton in it…what more could you ask for?

Nae bad at all, is it? Coming out of a 6 Season ‘The Good Wife’ marathon needed Series 3 to help the Cold Turkey.
The Good Wife is wonderful too.
Another vote for The Good Wife although I’m having to watch season 6 on Channel 4 week by week.
Beautifully done, great performances and It`s got a pretty good soundtrack too
The Americans is quite silly but it’s also kind of brilliant. Matthew Rhys is absolutely as hard as nails in it – a refreshing change from the usual posh campery that Brit actors normally have to portray. And it’s one of those programmes that’s almost worth it for the title sequence alone.
is the new series on then?
Just checked. Doesn’t look like they’ve announced a UK air date for Series 3 yet.
Love it. Especially enjoyed the opening episode of the pilot where they had the chase to Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk.
Series 3 has startered here (US)
I enjoyed this show too. ITV have dropped it though so unless another channel picks it up the third season won’t be shown here in the UK.
Oh no. We really enjoyed it.
Disappointing news, this was, beside The Good Wife, our favourite series. If no other channel picks it up, hopefully Netflix will.
However I write this, it’s going to come out sounding snobbish, but I always thought The Americans was a strange choice for Saturday night ITV and was surprised when they bought the second series. To be honest, I can’t think of a time slot where it could have picked up a larger audience. The tell-tale sign was the probably embarrasing lack of ads most weeks apart from the main sponsor.
Hopefully, another channel will take up the option, but I’m not holding my breath. Shame really.
