Welcome to our third foray into the Wordle-as-a-round-of-golf journey.
Each “hole” is a par 4 and we play 18 of them and see who does the best. The Baron has triumphed in the first two, but there are players nipping at his heels – eager to be top dog.
Everyone is welcome. Just remember to respect the rules and be on your guard for when Lodey conducts one of his highly invasive drug tests. Believe me, it’s better to go along with it rather than kick up a fuss.

Today’s Wordle solution was my most satisfying in a while @chiz. I’m a bit of a fan of Mr Bond and know this quote very well, but did you realise this is pretend golf?

Plenty of time indeed Paul, I’m due a 5 or 6 and my streak can’t carry on forever.
I know some people who think a Four on Wordle is a failure but they use starter words like Adieu and are not afraid to omit correct letters on the next line to narrow the possible solution down even further. It appears @andyourbirdcansing does neither.
What is most impressive about Baron’s skills is when faced with a third line containing at least a handful of possible answers, he (almost) invariably chooses the correct one. One day, no doubt, he will publish an instructional pamphlet so us mere mortals can marvel and, who knows, learn. Yours in awe.
I was going say give it a rest the same regurgitation of the same comment is becoming tiresome BUT I won’t so ignore the above my delete button doesn’t work on Saturdays.
I always use the first solution that comes to mind. I always use a different starter word. every time, this is also the first word that comes to mind, this is sometimes difficult because no word may come to mind. I wait until it does. The only time I make a note is if a starter words pops up well before the next Wordle. I never use anything except my head to solve a Wordle. I also never visit the thread until AFTER I have posted my solution unlike some. Gotta go now meeting mates for a cultural visit to Liverpool.

I wasn’t going to come back to the thread but after discussing the matter with the Baroness she asked me this “In the real world would you back down to anyone if you knew you were in the right?” The answer is emphatically no. I am often baffled by my…..luck when playing the game. When first playing Wordle (around #150?) I consistently scored an average of 4+, 5s & 6s being very common. I did once get a 1, FEAST being the word. Funny I can remember that but forget what I was doing 3 days ago. I’ve tried to explain my methods previously, new word every time, although some are obviously repeated. I’m not really bothered how many vowels that first word contains. After that it’s down guesswork, educated guesswork maybe and luck. Regarding multi-choices I go for the least likely solution……mostly.

It seems that if you use a “safe” starter word like, for instance, TRACE the statistical chances of you getting an eagle is 6.47%. If, like some of us, you choose a random starter the odds are much higher.
Paul has had, I think, 5 eagles in 17 holes which according to my abacus (not the most reliable of machines) is odds of roughly 29 million to 1 (may need further work on that figure). That’s exactly why I joked he should rush out and buy a lottery ticket. No insinuations, no slurs, just the jealous curses of someone heading for 2nd bottom place in tournament.

As with previous tournaments, media and fans don’t seem to gather at the 18th for the arrival of a middle of the pack also-ran. My green plus fours and grey golfing cardigan seem to camouflage me as my cap-twirling arrival at the green and final putt doesn’t garner a single clap of acknowledgment. My octogenarian one-armed caddy obviously couldn’t help there, but he did an impressive loud whistle with his fingers, like Harpo Marx does when communicating something urgent with Chico, who immediately understands him.
And here I am. I haven’t been keeping score, but pretty sure I haven’t won…more fluky birdies would have been handy.

We’re just unlucky to be playing our Wordle in the same era as the absolute GOAT of the sport. 30+ sub-par scores in 54 holes of tournament Wordle – it’s an achievement up there with the likes of Lance Armstrong, Diego Maradonna, Ben Johnson and the 1919 White Sox.
