A tough job but I make the sacrifice on behalf of this site. You know I was told once by someone here that I couldn’t really like both this silly pop and this more serious prog/jazz rock stuff. There’s always some pompous individual trying to tell you your stance is mistaken. You should like this you shouldn’t like that. I deem it to be so. You are over 30 and like new pop? You are fooling yourself. You have little interest in some great of the past, a master wordsmith who is deemed impossible to deny unless you are mentally defective. How can this be? I don’t tell you what you shouldn’t like but you are only too willing to judge others as you know best. It’s really quite tiresome. Sorry I went off on one there. You can only really speak for yourself.

I did, thanks. Not bad, and he obviously knows the subject really well, but my edition was badly in need of more proofreading – the number of typos and other issues gave me the fear.
I must admit that in the end I skipped a few chapters involving bands that I’m not so interested in because the various issues were driving me mad. As a copy-editor myself, I kept wanting to fix the text. Pity, because Robb could certainly describe the goth scene and sound very well.

Sadly for all the ‘gearheads’ out there, they called it a day in 2018 due in no small measure to what can only be termed ‘extreme differences in mortal conditions.’
Actually, no: I gave a knee-jerk answer consisting solely of music that I enjoy and get defensive about. On reflection, I don’t have a role here. I turn up and chunter on, soak up all the music recommendations from my fellow travellers and go away again.
Sorry to hear that, Fitter. Hope you’re feeling fitter. The unpredictability of your oft-changing avatar is, I believe, the reason most of us come here.

Have you read John Robb’s Goth opus, Darling? Lots of interesting stuff about the German industrial, goth and darkwave scenes.
I did, thanks. Not bad, and he obviously knows the subject really well, but my edition was badly in need of more proofreading – the number of typos and other issues gave me the fear.
Yeah, I enjoyed it but found it hard going at times, with the proof issues and an occasional heavy-handedness with the purple prose.
I must admit that in the end I skipped a few chapters involving bands that I’m not so interested in because the various issues were driving me mad. As a copy-editor myself, I kept wanting to fix the text. Pity, because Robb could certainly describe the goth scene and sound very well.

Hello @sarah
How are you doing with your Church crusade?
Unfortunately, there’s not much progress at the moment. Any spare cash is going on our new house. I still frequent the odd record fair, so the search continues. Early Church and an original Phillips Scott 4 are top of my list.
If you want to just listen to any of the rare early stuff, pm me. I have everything on mp3.
Cheers HP. Will do.
There was a great Abbey Road Half Speed Master of Scott 4 a few years ago, which might be cheaper than an orginal. I paid about £15 for mine.

I saw that and was tempted, but I already have Scotts 1-3 (which I love) and the completist in me wants the set.
