Twang welcomes Feedback File to the pod for a ramble through his musical past and other life stories. Unusually the boys are together in person, so Skype has no opportunity to introduce technical excitement this time. We cover teenage boy prog appeal, yuppies, classic pop, 80s work culture, writing music, books, podcasts….
To book a moment in the podcast sun PM @Twang and schedule a 121!

Feedback is far too modest to promote his own music here so I will. See Bandcamp for some nice sounds!

Twang says
Yep!

Lovely old chat last night – no beer but at least I feel virtuous today. Loads of music, books etc that I should have mentioned but thats the curse of the digital world (plus my failing faculties).
The Good Doctor says
Good stuff – I’m always interested to hear how people’s musical tastes are formed and – (as a result of listening to the Chart Music Podcast) fascinated by the detail of life in the 1970s which I only dimly recall as a wee lad – so ticks both boxes!
Twang says
Cheers Doc I was beginning to worry no one was listening!
Tiggerlion says
I plan on having a bath tomorrow!

Lovely stuff gents. Can’t comment on your singing voice @Feedback_File but that gentle Rotherham speech pattern makes you a podcast natural.
Feedback_File says
Thank you for that compliment @Twang will be nervous! It’s been over 40 yrs since I lived there and the accent has been much softened over the years but what is it they say ‘you can take the boy out of Rotherham but ……’

Enjoyed that a lot, guys. And it introduced me to the the delights of Muckle Flugga (surely TMFTL?). Funnily enough it got a mention in yesterday’s Times Top 20 British Isles, under Unst. I similarly love the acoustic Steve McQueen songs. Talking of artists revisiting their songs, as you are a fan of Jimmy Webb, as I am, do you like his Ten Easy Pieces where he redoes some of his great numbers? I really do. Also I intend to discover a lot more of Glen Campbell as I haven’t heard much. Like Twang I probably couldn’t listen for hours at a stretch but he has such a fantastic voice and interpretation.
Hope you have a great holiday in France, Feedback! Oh and that is possibly the sweariest podcast yet!!

That made the hour spent tidying my garage, and moving the drum kit* out there from the spare room, almost fun.
(*) We have visitors later and, for some reason, Mrs F thinks a guest bedroom should contain a bed which can be accessed without clambering over a drum kit.
Tiggerlion says
That was a very pleasurable listen. You two are so relaxed with hardly an um or an err. You are naturals. Well done.

Thanks all for positive feedback ( pun intended) – being in the room together of course makes it so much more relaxed and as was obvious we do know each other very well. However apologies for the occasional rude words , I’ll put some coins in the AW swear box . Listening back to myself (aargh!) I didn’t really seem to talk much about artists other than Prog, Glenn Campbell and Scott Walker! Just like to say I don’t wear flares anymore and did move on in the 80s 90s and noughties – ambient/new classical, post rock , jazz and some of the more interesting new singer songwriters are the mainstays of my current listening.
And yes @Neela I do like 10 Easy Pieces but struggle with Webb’s voice – he’s great live though so many stories.

Yes, if you like sonorous voices such as Scott and Glenn’s, Jimmy’s vocal was never like that. Still I really like it on his records for the emotive way he sings and responds to the melody. Mind you I think it is pretty shot nowadays when I’ve heard him lately singing live. But at least he is a still a great storyteller as you say!
Twang says
I love his craft too. Beautifully developed clever songs.
