Twang welcomes legendary record producer Mike Vernon to the pod to discuss his career spanning numerous classic albums but especially Afterword favourite John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton” (AKA “The Beano” album) and the first generation Fleetwood Mac, plus a catch up on Mike’s more recent activities. Mike is happy to go deep on the nerdy stuff and Twang periodically proves unable to avoid going into gush mode.

Right, this is going in the car for the morning! What a coup – how did you manage that Twangers? This is a bloke who had Rory and Koss playing geetar, along with stellar pals, on his solo album on the Blue Note label! I cherish my vinly to this day, lyric sheet and all. Cheapest copy on Discogs about £140!!
I emailed him and asked him! He’s the nicest bloke.
Blue Horizon label!
Doh, yes!
Enjoyed that, thanks @Twang ! I never realised he produced Focus (from not having the records I guess).
Interesting about Blue Horizon and the hyper accelerated times in which it was born – a cutting edge label right on the money when they cut the deal with CBS in 1967 becomes essentially a spent force in just 4 years.
Nice one, well done!
Another good interview Twang. I’m always amazed how these guys remember anything from way back when. Focus was a big surprise – that means he saw Akkerman play the greatest guitar solo of all time .
oooooh, I haven’t got around to listening to this yet, but this increases my motivation.
Great interview, thanks. He’s got a funny voice hasn’t he? And that Hocus Pocus – I listened to it for the first time in 40 odd years. It’s SO silly – how was it ever a hit?
well @Mousey, there was that guitar solo.
Funny voices you say? Ha Ha Ha! Hee hee hee!
Yes, Vernon was also the producer on the Laughing Gnome.
Bowie’s ‘I’ll try anything to have a hit’ period
Fabulous interview……….Thanks
