In another universe of lost recordings this already exists but in this reality for the first time Mr DFB, Dr Volume, Rigid Digit and Ganglesprocket chose their favourite music TV moments at short notice and are then forced to justify themselves.
To help with the video part of this audio only experience there is a YouTube playlist up at
So we discuss
Dusty n Martha’s Motown youthquake
Lady Soul’s explosion in the unlikeliest of places
The band who made it all look so much of a real good time
The magnetic howling noise of Johnny and the boys
Freaky dancing and glasses from local TV heaven
Not definitive, not exhaustive, simply off the top of our heads.
Part 2 will follow with plenty of swearing, jumping, fury and fun.
for the YouTube playlist if the above doesn’t work
Splendid sir! My commute tomorrow is sorted!
This playlist by Pete Paphides covers much similar ground. A treasure trove of interesting pop TV.
Good work sir! A nice bright and breezy listen, mainly because we are all just yacking about stuff we like.
By the way, I wish I’d remembered this…
Five comments in six days, four of them from participants, and this is still pinned above the fold. What’s the thinking here, Mods?
It’s not pinned to get comments, it’s pinned to encourage people to listen to it as it’s produced by members, for members and the larger group of people who visit the site without joining.
Will be unpinned tomorrow , if it helps
The number of comments is irrelevant
Btw keep meaning to send list of links and descriptions of early episodes that are missing from episode guide including one with the late James Blaaast. Will bung it along soon
Yes we have failed to garner the popular vote and unleash a thousand YouTube clips. Althou it’s existence clearly irked you which is some comfort.
Hey I’m sure it’s a fine piece of work and the second hour will be just as delightful, but if it doesn’t get a response even with a stacked deck then maybe it’s time to move it aside
What the fuckin’ ever Chiz – thanks for sharing your negative and sneering thoughts as ever. I see it’s gone from the front page now so you’ll have to find something else to let the steam out of.
Snide, miserable and negative, you have no idea how your sniping comments affect people. This place used to be an oasis in a desert of shite but you singlehandedly appear to want to redirect the sewer pipe and ruin it.
I’m not the first person to post this and I won’t be the last. Whoever put this on here 2/3 years ago is responsible for me finally surrendering to Ye Olde Falle… Funny to think that I would have seen this first time out at the age of ten, as I was glued to the Tube every week.
The lurching aggression on this version of Smile, broadcast at about 6pm on a Friday evening in the good old days when we only had 4 channels, is priceless. Groovy, fuckers!
This would have been the 1st time I saw The Fall – not at the time but on some clips show and thought both musically and visually – ‘what the fuck?’
Late to the party on this. I only just got round to listening to it.
It’s awesome. Much more entertaining and enlightening than the Chart Music and Bigmouth podcasts.
Now onto part 2…
