Where were we?
DFB, Steven C, Nigel T and the non alliterative DoctorJ continue wih The Beatles chat – which is what they do even if the tapes aren’t running to discuss the new publishing wheeze of releasing albums with pamphlets attached that they humorously call a magazine.
We talk about the tacky, wacky or canny nature of Apple’s treatment of The Beatles whether via vinyl or CD, the proposed 50th anniversary of Pepper, the Strawberry Fields Forever re-release that never was and our own HORA in the guise of Uncle StevenC’s guide to introducing young people to vinyl records.
This will be our last podcast on The Beatles……..
Nope, sorry, we will never stop talking abot them but podcast #57 should be a Fabs free zone.
But still fab.
Ahem.

Listening now, and enjoying it very much, especially Dave’s new sexy growl. I’m assuming some kind of lurgi is to blame 🙂
The DeAgostini set was released last year, but was subscription only and suspended after four issues. Apparently this kind of trial run to test the waters is a standard practice. Those who originally signed up were encouraged to hang on until the set was relaunched, with the promise of some sort of special issue; I don’t think this has surfaced yet, though.
Yes meant to mention that Nigel T was correct in his belief that the campaign had emerged before
My special sound is a mix of Northern air, Nandos and a day working in server rooms
I am relieved that my memory isn’t completely shot..!
I did post this elsewhere, but I was with Mrs. T in Tesco a couple of weeks ago…approached the display for these and was about to put Abbey Road into the trolley when I got a firm ‘No – you have enough copies of the Beatles already’….schoolboy error!
pssst….(if only so DFB and Twang can attend a Gala Luncheon)

Splendid!
This was my first listen to any AW blog and it will definitely not be my last. I quite enjoyed it, thanks dfb and all the rest of the talking heads.
I listened very carefully from beginning to end but I didn’t hear Tina Weymouth speak once. She may have been playing bass on one of the very pleasing instrumental breaks, though.
Now now Tiggs.
“I quite enjoyed it” – that’s going on the poster…. 🙂
A ringing endorsement!
Only if I get credited.
Nice stuff. My 10 yr old daughter also got one of those portable record players for Christmas. She danced in the aisle at an Eight Days a Week showing, has seen Macca live and next weekend I am taking her to see The Zombies play Odessey and Oracle in full, so she is being well trained…
I also think Please Please Me is awesome. I actually believe it is the best sounding Beatles record. I picked up an original UK mono pressing in Toronto a few years ago. It looked beat up and the guy let me have it for $10 (cover was in good shape). It cleaned up a treat and it sounds sensational.
A very enjoyable listen whilst driving today (although did have to crank the volume right up to hear DFB, are you the bass of the AW podcast?). One thing that wasn’t really mentioned was the booklet that accompanies each of the de agostini albums, i wondered what the content was like? do i presume that none of you have dared to open package to find out for fear of loss of future mint value?!
Wouldn’t mind buying a few of the de agostini albums to plug a few gaps in my Beatles vinyl collection, you seemed to give the impression they could now be bought individualy in shops as opposed to subscription, if so does anyone know what newsagents / shops are stocking them?
Listened to it yesterday & thoroughly enjoyed it.
Big thanks & hat doffed to all participants.
Excellent podcast,thanks chaps!
Listened to it yesterday and last night it prompted me to have a “Beatles In Mono” night
Nursing a sick puss is giving me plenty of spare time right now, and AW podcasts have been a blessing to occupy the time while not ministering to mog…didn’t I see about this time last year that a podcast on The Prisoner was mooted…anything come of that?
I think I gave our Prisoner virgin few eps to watch about a year ago. I’ll find out if she has watched it yet
Great podcast – well done all, really enjoyed that.
Doesn’t look like it but is anyone else having a problem with this ‘cast stopping after a few minutes?
I’m using the Apple Podcast app and have deleted / re-downloaded to see if I just had a corrupt file but still no joy – gets a couple of minutes in and then just won’t play any further
As you were. Downloaded for a third time and now seems to be okay
The drumming excerpt was excellent. Where might I find more of that?
