Lovely. Some interesting and entertaining discussion there, with the unfortunate (for my wallet) result that I’ve gone from thinking “I won’t need to buy that complete Harrison vinyl thingie – I already have most of it and I never seem to get around to getting my stereo assembled again anyway” to thinking “I really should buy that…I’ll be unhappy if I don’t, and this will be the kick in the arse I need to get that stereo back in shape again!”

My problem with what I’ve heard of George Harrison’s solo stuff is he’s the opposite of Mozart – not enough notes – a lot of his stuff is very droney and flat – and unlike other dronesmiths like say Jason Pierce or the Velvets or Can etc he’s just not very good at it .;
Apart from ATMP,I love Cloud 9 and George Harrison. Brainwashed is good too. Anyone spending about 350 quid on his total catalogue has a) possible issues and b) too much money. Especially as they are all available separately or you can get second hand copies of most of them for very little. Picked up a mint original of 33 and 1/3 for $4 just the other day.
Ouch! I hadn’t investigated the price…but I see that you’re right. I also see that my online record shop has a “Dark Horse Years” box for about £90, so perhaps I’ll just go for that one! Add a couple of separates to that and yes, much more sensible (and not vinyl, which is both good and bad, in my case…)
Yes, probably makes sense. Vinyl-wise I think I also picked up LITMW, Dark Horse and Extra Texture for a few bucks. Also paid about 3 quid for ATMP but that was in about 1981!
The Apple Years CD box is worth seeking out, but it seems to have got very pricey lately. Very good remastering and lovely replica sleeves, plus a book and DVD.
Oh and Mind Games is not bad and Walls and Bridges is excellent.

Great podcast!, only thing missing was mention of George’s fab slide solo in Belinda Carlisles ‘Leave a Light On’. Pleased that Cheer Down got a mention as its a hidden gem in his catalogue. Heres a clip of it being performed rather splendidly at Beatleweek a few years ago by Argentinian Tribute band Nube 9
Thank you – as someone who knows very little of Harrison’s solo material post ATMP, I found that both educational and entertaining. Am listening to the playlist as I write – not overwhelmed thus far if I’m honest but looking forward to exploring in more depth
