So much so that the edit of the main next podcast has been delayed so here’s the other stuff they chatted about

All very inconsequential but it passes 30 mins or so

I was at Croke Park Sunday; I don’t think myself or Mrs DrJ were the only two in the stadium muttering ‘oh balls’ when Bongo waddled out.
Without the exploding lemons, the hyperactive crabs or the hollowed out ladas, he had to just stand on the stage for the 3 minute Nils Lofgren guitar wig-out, occasionally yelping ‘yeah’ into the mic as we looked on, wonderin’, as one, ‘what in the jaysus is the George Michael (early 90s model) lookalike at now?’…
Nice listen on walk to work. As for no totally fulfilling Boss albums, have you guys never heard of Born to Run!!! (and Darkness and Nebraska and Tunnel of Love and The Wild … etc etc). And Bruce wrote Because the Night (Patti Smith changed a few words and got a co write credit), still doesn’t excuse Bono at any gig.

Just tell them to go away and listen to Born to Run (other albums are available) for a week and then report back, otherwise they should be suspended from future podcasts …
For once I’m with HP on musical taste here (and I wouldn’t even call myself a huge fan of The Boss). TWTIATESS, Darkness and Born To Run are flawless. I think there’s a case that nothing since 1980 has really satisfied but those three are summat else.
It was an opinion expressed that could have been challenged but that would have been a whole different podcast – pity the poor editor
FWIW Bob I agree with yer – except for nothing exemplary since 1980 (Davils & Dust, Joad, The Rising and yes, BITUSA)
BITUSA is an underrated (by diehard fans) masterpiece, Magic was mentioned as a favourite and is a very good album indeed, let down by appalling sound quality.
Those are the three I’d go for. I’d add Nebraska if nudged.
I’d add Nebraska to that list. Superb album.
Re: TWIATESS, I think it’s Springsteen’s masterpiece, and it’s in my top ten favourite albums of all time, and yet…. does anyone really need Wild Billy’s Circus Story on there?

TWTIATESS has gone up in my estimation since the recent and long overdue remaster of the CD n vinyl editions. Its brilliance flipping shines brighter than ever now
Wild Billy’s Circus Story – do we need it? Probably not. Do I enjoy it? Yes, because it adds to that funfair/weirdness vibe. The whole album (in a very real sense) is a Circus Story, and the faintly sinister challenge of “wanna try the Big Top” encapsulates (in a very real sense) the (if you will) mythos of the album.
Good call on the weirdness vibe. I must admit I often skip over it – I can sort of see what it’s doing there, and first time round it did add a pleasing “what the fuck is this” moment in the middle of proceedings, and allow a pause for breath ahead of that mighty second side. But it’s not much fun to actually listen to. So I don’t tend to do so.
TWIATESS has just about everything I want from a Springsteen record.
Great opening track (it all but hangs a “Good times: happening here” sign on the front of the album), the wistfulness of Sandy, the greatest side two of any record ever made – the ultimate Bruce party track sandwiched between Incident on 57th and NYC Serenade. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Wild Billy is a bit pony though.
I don’t rate Born To Run at all. It lacks nuance in my view. I’m unconvinced by its bombast and find it borders on the hysterical. Darkness, Nebraska and TWTIATESS in that order for me.
Maybe I should defend myself here. I have tried repeatedly with Bruce over the years, but frankly I can’t get past the fact that he’s no Billy Joel.

I appear to be alone in preferring Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ to TWTIATESS.
And I don’t much care for anything anything (apart from the odd song*) after Nebraska.

Sorry to digress, but TWTIATESS is such an indigestible acronym that my mind is auto-translating it to TWATNESS.
