I think it’s interesting that Brown Sauce were singing a song mentioning Frank Bough and other domestic TV people way before Half Man Half Biscuit made their millions doing exactly the same thing!

Really good but could have been nerdier.
I recall being stood in Woolies gazing at the Top 75 singles (which seemed like the most enormous wall-full of records ever) and having to choose between Brown Sauce and Golden Brown by The Stranglers as I only had enough money for one single. I went for Brown Saunce.
I also stood in the same place deliberating over Vienna and Shaddap You Face. It may well be my fault that Ultravox didn’t hit the top spot. Sorry Midge.

Enjoyed the podcast enormously. Reminded me of the hurt it caused when I sold my copy of Coles Corner on LP this year. In truth it was a lousy pressing & not worth the substantial sum I got for it-roll on the reissue!!

I’ve invested heavily in CD over the years – a decision that has left me with a collection that would be far more valuable if it was on vinyl – but as I say on the Podcast my early listening was all about tapes and my walkman so I’m more affectionate for that format than Vinyl and once I could afford it I embraced the CD wholeheartedly – ultimately I thoroughly enjoyed shopping for them and they continue to provide listening pleasure and I treasure my shelves of CDs just as much as my crates of Vinyl and the boxes of tapes….I’m buying more Vinyl these days but if Stephen Wilson could mix everything on CD I’d stick with that tbh.
I take issue with the comment about Vinyl being essential for DJ-ing (kept quiet as I didn’t want to “Ganglesprocket” the podcast (can we have that as a new verb?)
– I use a a mix of Vinyl and Laptop when DJing and was an early adopter of this technology (I was using Ableton Live Version 1 when everyone else was using CD decks) – if you know how to use the kit properly and have a decent audio interface, know how to EQ and balance tracks live and have good quality files you can cut through just fine – ultimately when everyone’s dancing the format becomes irrelevant – and with some of the dodgy floorboards and shaking stages I’ve been on sometimes digital is the only way to go…otherwise it’s “Hey You…Don’t Watch That…Watch..vrrrrrrrrrreeeeep!”

Ah just to clarify @ganglesprocket what I meant was I had strong opinions on the subject that would normally result in something of a rant, comparable to those of your good self vis-a-vis the ‘Pride (In the Name of Love)’ hitmakers but I chose to hold that back in this instance. No offence intended bro.

@dogfacedboy he’d wipe the floor with me. Wasn’t his first record Syd Barrett? Brown Sauce isn’t going to stand up to that vinyl or otherwise.

I went to secondary school in Hertford and spent far too long hanging around in Tracks Records. I wonder if I ever flicked through the racks at the same time as Spencer?
Perhaps Spencer also bunked off his morning PE lesson to buy Dare on the morning of release.
