Steve T joins Twang in the pod to discuss which of his favourite tracks, book and luxury he would take to a desert island should fate place him there. If this format reminds you of a programme by the nation’s favourite broadcaster, this is, of course, a complete coincidence.
If you’d like to be abandoned on a desert island with only one book and a few MP3s, contact Twang.
For those needing the full tracks rather than the stingy legally demanded snippets, here’s a handy playlist.
Looking forward to listening. I won’t spoil it by looking at the Spotify list…
I’ll not be listening to Blackcuntry Boy for 60 minutes. I have enough to put up with when I meet up with him. All his bluster about insider knowledge of the music industry. This because he has a job sorting the LP racks out in the music section of an Alcoholics Anonymous Charity Shop (2 racks). Not to mention his Nordic stomping through the fjords of Lichfield.
Arf!
I’m presuming this is *banter* between two good friends!
Of course it is, you stupid bastard! 😘
Just listened to the podcast and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not heard side of the road before, what a song .
It is indeed a remarkable song. Essence of Lucinda, altho’, um, “Essence” gets close
The list has piqued my interest.
That was fun, like a thread without the bother of typing or Youtube adverts (says the man who doesn’t have to edit all the bits together).
I might pitch the idea to my radio producer friend.
I enjoyed that – a good idea!
Steve T gets the credit!
That was very entertaining, thanks!
And it reminded me that The Elbow are probably the most boring band ever… 😉
Surprising they had any success at all after choosing such a terrible name.
Actually The doesn’t exist but I assume that was Teutonic humour.
@fatima – Obviously all different opinions and they wouldn’t appear in my top 10 favourite bands or even top 20 actually but I do find it funny that the people who championed them before Seldom Seen Kid, slagged them off when they got famous. All of a sudden Guy Garvey was a dickhead. Not sure you have heard his radio show on 6music but he is clearly not a dick and has a pretty decent taste in music.
I think their later songs are much better than the earlier stuff except for Station Approach which is a belter.
A day like this has become a bit of a cloying cliche but that is hardly their fault – it wasn’t written to be a song that features at everyone’s wedding.
Nothing more damaging to your career than success.
Successful as Elbow are, or have been, I’d be interested to know if GG makes more money as a broadcaster than he does as a musician.
Here’s little Stevie:
Fantastic!
Should be played in every home in every day….
Lovely!!
Is it really five years since the first 121?
That was fun. Thanks chaps. I am sorely tempted…
Go on! I’d listen for sure.
me too
Re the comments around R<’s Withered and Died, check out the Richard sung version on a recently dug up live album from last century. Phenomenal.
@retropath2 which one is that?

I’ll try and find the requisite clip, if I can. (It isn’t the Live From Rock City Nottingham, from the same year, ironically)
Damn, can’t find it…. Maybe taken down.
This one?
Not sure if this is the Rock City one as there’s no info. It’ll do me.
That’s it! Gradely!!
My but that’s good!!!
Gosh that’s fab. Shows what a great singer he is too. I feel a Thompson hour coming on.
Just listened, great stuff. Well done both.
