Twang welcomes (The Mighty) Tull supremo Ian Anderson to the pod, who popped in to talk about the not one but two tours he’s running in parallel this year. We also cover the greasy spoon days of touring, guitarists past and present, choice of supermarket and the ultimate definition of prog from an anointed Prog God.

Splendid – thanks Twang!
Ainsley says
Bloody hell, I haven’t got through Mousey yet and another one pops up. Prolific!
Twang says
Ah well the Ian one popped up out of the blue but I wasn’t going to say no!

Who knew there was a Tull / Walking Dead connection? Anderson a bit more relaxed than in previous conversations. All credit to Twang for getting this and to the AW for being seen as worthwhile of getting IA’s time.
Bargepole says
Another really enjoyable listen, there’s been some super podcasts of late – IA seemed in good form, even if the conversation ended rather suddenly! Shame he didn’t mention the future of the Tull reissue series though.

Yes, I’d have been interested to hear what (if anything) is next. It should be A this year, if I’m remembering my chronology rightly? I’d quite like a Thick as a Brick reissue and Benefit done in the same format as the others. Because – and I’m slightly ashamed to admit it – the gaps bother me.
Bargepole says
I think those two will eventually be redone in the current format, but I’ve heard nothing about which, if any, will come next moving forward in the Tull canon – not sure there’s enough demand to make something like A viable – Yes opted not to continue with their reissues for the same reason – but who knows!
Twang says
It was on my list to ask him but we ran out of time. Strictly 20 minutes! He’s got a clear view of what he thinks the best Tull albums are so maybe he’ll just decide what’s next on that basis. I’d have thought Crest as it won a Grammy!
But there is a book style Steven Wilson TAAB?
John Walters says
I’ve looked long and hard for the book style TAAB Twang but have never found one.
Ainsley says
I presume there weren’t that many produced as they seem to go for almost £200 now, IF you can find one.
Feeling smug now that I paid the £40 for one at the time

Blimey!

I’m glad I bought mine when it came out.

Great stuff @Twang! I’ve done interviews for the radio where you only get 15mins and you are very concious of the time limit during the chat and you always have certain stuff that gets left out.
Twang says
Thanks NT.
The Good Doctor says
I listened as a Tull-Sceptic – but the Motorway Services chat hooked me in I’m always interested to hear how things roll with ‘heritage acts’ these days and he was very honest about that wasn’t he?. I’m glad you left the ending in – presumably other Podcasters, journalists and radio stations on the line waiting their turn – it made a kind of jarring end to the conversation but then again it made sense him having already explained how he has to turn up the charm a bit when fans want a piece of him when he’d rather not.
Billybob Dylan says
Blimey! When he’s done, he’s done, isn’t he?! Great interview, though!
I’m curious – how did it come about? Did you put a call into Anderson’s “people” and they told you you could have 20 minutes? How do these things work?
Twang says
I’m on the list of a few PRs who speculatively email out trying to get interest in whatever their act is doing. If it’s someone I’m interested in, or I think would of be of interest here I follow it up. Sometimes I pass them on to others here if I think they would be interested. I do nothing on far more than I take on though.
Billybob Dylan says
Thanks, Twang!
