Here’s an interesting little list, with a short note about each selection, from Treblezine, a source with which I’ve not previously been familiar.
There are a few here that I know and like and some more that I now intend to explore.
Last year was a pretty good one for jazz, IMO, and this one has too. If not even better.
Any other 2019 jazz lists, anyone?

Tonbruket’s latest, Masters Of Fog, is quite a journey. Jazzprogkrautpsychfolk at its best.
Sebastian Toombs says
Thanks for this recommendation. I have been waiting for years for something interesting to rise from the ashes of EST and Tonbruket could be it. It’s not rock and roll but it is Jazzprogkrautpsychfolk and I like it.
Mike_H says
I like Tonbruket. Sort of progrock-y edge of jazz. I saw them play last year at the Vortex jazz club in Dalston (might have been the year before) and bought a few of their other CDs. Good to see Dan Berglund hasn’t abandoned them in favour of Rymden, who I’d like to see sometime.
Neela says
Their albums are really good, and yet they manage to bring it up another notch live.
I haven’t seen Rymden live. Can’t help to compare them with EST, which is unfair and something I’m hoping to get around somehow.
Kid Dynamite says
Shame the Ezra Collective album isn’t there.
Mike_H says
It’s only a top 10. I suspect they’d be in a top 20 or 30 somewhere.

A much more conservative pair of lists (albums of the year and reissues of the year) from Jazzwise magazine.
Annoying that vinyl versions of albums are given their own listings, additional to the CD/Download versions.

I did see that. Very America-centric as expected. More stuff to check out in the new year.

Allmusic’s list is interesting, presented in alphabetical order:

Mike_H says
Plenty to chew on in that list.

There are plenty of jazz recordings in Ted Gioia’s 100 favourite albums of the year:
http://tedgioia.com/bestalbumsof2019.html
I normally find this to be my second favourite end-of-year album list.
Second only to the staggeringly original and endlessly fascinating Aquarium Drunkard “2019 Year in Review chart”.
https://aquariumdrunkard.com/2019/12/18/aquarium-drunkard-2019-year-in-review/
Indeed, I sometimes try to stay away from that list as long as I can, because when I finally consult it, I find that I want to go straight off and buy about 75% of the records on it.
duco01 says
Those of you who’ve checked out the Ted Gioia 100 Top albums (in alphabetical order) will have found an interesting-sounding album under ‘D’.
Artist: Arrington de Dionyso
Title: Shouting Over Deep Water Blues
Description: Avant-Garde Horn Music Played on Homemade Instruments by a Man in a Boat off the Coast of Sweden
Now, you’ve gotta admit – that sounds like an absolute cracker of a record!
Kaisfatdad says
Interedting!
Antons for Arrington smoothie jazz vagina?

“Miss!”
“A naughty boy has filched some footage of Kenny F**king G and improved upon it by replacing all previously-existing sounds!”
“Excellent!”

Here’s one from Australia that just came out last month. Mike Nock (piano) Jonathan Zwartz (double bass) Hamish Stuart (drums) and Julien Wilson (sax)

Also Jonathan Zwartz released his own album earlier this year, also with Hamish and Julien. Here’s the rather beautiful title track (Barney McAll plays piano on this)

I can’t find their best of the year list, but Orkester Journalen’s blg should be worth a browse despite the language barrier.
https://orkesterjournalen.com/wordpress/?cat=21
It is Sweden’s number one jazz magazine and always full of new releases and up-and-coming artists.
This might be worth a browse too: a showcase event for Nordic jazz in Washington.

I bet the Trumpster was up the front.
Girls in Airports had the best name!
Promising.
Mike_H says
Saw Girls In Airports a few years back at the London Jazz Festival, on the Barbican free stage. They were good. I ended up buying a couple of their albums.
Kaisfatdad says
I can understand that. On the basis of what i have heard, i am keen to hear more.
Kaisfatdad says
Mike, I suspect you would have a lot to talk about with my neighbour, Fredrik.
He is constantly suggesting new things for me to listen to.
I just looked to see if he had done a best of 2019 yet, He will!
In the meantime, I was delighted to discover this playlist of jazz harpists.
Kaisfatdad says
And here is a playlist from Radio Helsinki. I suspect it is stuff they have played during the year, so some is vintage. But definitely worth a browse through.
I do enjoy playlists that I can have on like a radio station. If anything catches my ear, I can stop and dig deeper.
Moose the Mooche says
Intrigued to note that Tadd Dameron has risen from the dead to record a tribute to the NHS-hitmaker.
Mike_H says
Yet another new discovery for me.
Alice Zawadzki. Singer, violinist, pianist and composer.
The guitarist here is another 2019 discovery for me. Rob Luft.
