Picking up something@vulpes-vulpes posted elsewhere… that’s it for this year. Work finished, glass of grog to hand, fire lit. What a relief. It’s been a grim year but at least it’s now the hols, here at least. The tension hasn’t gone from the shoulders yet but hopefully a few nights now not waking at 4am thinking about work. TFFT.

Same here. After a particularly busy period I find myself waking up on 23rd having finished all the work I had to do – one of the completions only happening in the last hour of the last working day. I still have the tense adrenalin-fuelled awareness that happens when there are multiple deadlines to meet. I am hoping that’ll go away by Christmas Day. But, for now, the work bit is over. TFFT.
That’s me done for 7 whole days. Just been out for a convivial and seasonal curry / beer combo with a like-minded friend from work. All colleagues and senior managers suitably slagged off and the world put to rights. Now hunkering down for a worry-free respite until I have to spend another year pretending I give a toss. Somewhere there is a nice bottle of port with my name on it.
Any port in a storm, Bungle…
Got enough for the next 4 storms here…
“Cheers!” Mike ๐
Been off for a week, have another week to go and just what I needed. I have re-discovered what sleep is. Lovely to mooch about, listen to piled up unheard music and the odd afternoon nap.
Still tying up a few loose ends: last invoices of the year but I haven’t done any on site work for a couple of weeks and there’s no kit going out until 6th January so a decent break. A bit of a downer was that some of the work in the diary for January got cancelled yesterday but I stopped fretting about that sort of thing years ago. Something always comes in.
I officially finish in half an hour.
I’ve clearly already logged off in my head if I’m on here…
Our boss went on leave yesterday, mince pies are on tap, someone else has brought in a keg of passable ale and in just over an hour we are off to a local restaurant for a couple of hours of chatter, drink and food on the company. And relax …
Spent the last half hour unsuccessfully looking for an appropriate, copyright free image to use on the cover of a project I have been working on, given up on that, will probably log off completely by two. Look, I had my lunchtime sandwich at my desk, what more do they want?
Finished Tuesday – back on 3rd January.
Not all loose ends tied up, but hoping/trusting that there will not be a big pile of wotsit when I do return.
Usually stay to the bitter end, so finishing early makes a nice lazy change
(apart from now having to engage in Mrs D’s hobby of visiting every single supermarket in the local area just in case we have forgotten something )
Loo rolls.
I think we’re OK for Soul singers

Got back from and hour and half of insanity in Waitrose to discover Twang Jr has drunk most of the tonic water. ๐ฉ
At least it wasn’t the gin
I’m assuming not.
Got family prezzies.
Got wrapping paper.
No sellotape!
Tell him Herts isn’t a hot-bed of malarial insect action, and that there are better things to drink that don’t induce a rictus grin! Tonic?? Yuck!!!!
After a few weeks of long days juggling three projects that all had the same deadline of last Friday, I’ve had an unnervingly quiet week this week. Even managed to catch up my expense claims this morning.
Working at home today and going to pop the dogs out for a walk at 3:30 while it’s still light. If nothing comes in on the email while I’m out, then I’ll call it a year there I think. Off to Wales for a few days in a cottage with the outlaws from tomorrow, looking forward to a bit of a rest.
I am working on a commission as I will be doing tomorrow and the day after and the day after that. Tuesday & Wednesday though I get to spend some time with good friends.
Looking forward to that. Beer may be involved.
Just finished today until the 3rd January.
Was supposed to be a chilled day with an early finish. Pizzas were ordered in. Then mid morning we got the news that a colleague had succumbed to a brain tumour.
2016 can fuck right off. Looking forward to beer and talking bollox with a couple of my mates on here next week.
Off out tonight with an old and dear friend. If I’m not in considerable pain for a good section of Christmas Eve I will have done the evening wrong.
My other half pointed something out to me recently regarding our Sunday afternoons. These last 12 months or more I’ve tried to squeeze as much “stuff” into my weekends as possible, conscious of the fact that weekdays have just been work, work, work. The net result has been that I’ve been going back to the grind already knackered each week.
Ten years ago when my wife’s mother was still alive, we used to go to see her every weekend without fail, sometimes on both days. At the time I remember feeling that, pleasant though the duty was, it did reduce the amount of my own time that I had for doing “stuff”; nonetheless, we kept up our visits to the end, and after a Sunday lunch and a walk by the river they often finished with me sparked out on my mother-in-law’s sofa, zonked in a deep sleep for a good two hours on a Sunday afternoon.
It dawned on me finally, at my wife’s observation, that it was specifically that relaxation time which had guaranteed a refreshed mind and body for my Monday mornings. I am resolved next year to try once again to get myself a proper siesta every Sunday afternoon.
Sunday afternoon Siesta is as they say, the dogs bollocks. I say go for it Vulpes.
Finished today until the 3rd. Working 8-14 hour days since mid November and doing a 500 mile round trip for the last 3 weekends clearing my Mum’s house I am officially spent! We just realised that tomorrow will be the first time we haven’t set the alarm for about 6 weeks.
No cutting, folding or binding books or trips to the tip and charity shops for at least 10 days, heaven!
Delivered my last letter at 12.15 today
Off for 3 days now, back for 4 and then another 4 off
Feet up and some beers chilling for later tonight
Merry Christmas everybody!!!
