I’m a bit surprised that this has not been discussed here yet (unless I’ve missed it, in which case mods please delete this)
Somehow the local reporter managed to speak to Andy, Colin, Dave and Terry.
And of course Andy was the one with the killer response to talk of a reunion…
“Some of the saddest sights you will see, and hear, are old, fat, bald, hoarse pop groups, waddling around a stage, in front of people trying to relive their youth…
…I’d leave XTC as it is, a perfectly flawed historical event that left much good music in our vapour trail.

We don’t need another “my favourite XTC songs” thread, but after posting that I just felt the need to listen to ONE SONG. This, one of my favourites. And – well just listen to Colin’s bass playing…
Was mentioned somewhere here I think. Yes they do talk about a reunion, but not in any positive way at all.
That reminds me of the local paper’s sandwich board outside the station which would regularly have headlines like “Town to buy new striker?”, in the hope you would buy the paper. You can probably guess the answer.
You see similar clickbait headlines on Facebook all the time
“Vinyl outsells CDs ten to one” and the like….
Fatima posted it last week (currently near the top of Page 2 of the Forum):
And yet…it can’t be just me who’d love to see what they came up with for one final studio based album. If it was half as good as Apple Venus it’d still be brilliant. I know it isn’t going to happen but it’s still an intriguing thought.
It’s a moot point to what extent that those albums were really the work of a band rather than a White Album-style splicing-together of glorified solo albums. Alan and Colin could probably “do” an XTC album without even having to speak to each other.
Alan – the shadowy fifth member? The George Martin…or the Pete Best?
@fitterstoke
Alan Klein?
Of course!! Mind…blown!
I meant Andy.
….or did I?
I do like that Drums and Wires muriel though. (Sorry, can’t say mural any more than I can say Andre Previn)
@fitterstoke
Aha! It’s just occurred to me that Alan could also be Andy’s brother
That would explain a lot.
My favourite XTC album? ….The Best of XTC.
The Dukes of Stratosfear – the band XTC could have been
Reforming to play live is especially unlikely with this lot and Partridge stage frighted out of it the last 40’years
An album would be nice but Andy Partridge is such a tyrant I don’t think the others would want to do that
He can’t even bring himself to make a proper solo record so I think it unlikely he could make a decent XTC one
That point about a solo record is really frustrating isn’t it? I’d love to hear a proper solo album, with someone else (Steven Wilson maybe?) producing so Andy can’t overcook it. Can’t see it happening unfortunately.
If you put together the two My Failed Songwriting Career EPs by Andy P, plus the single The Hardest Battle by Colin and Scatter Me by TC&I, you have what could be rearranged as a phantom XTC album.
