I am not a fan of Zappa, but I know quite a few of this parish are. On listening to the new She Drew The Gun track, I noticed it was a cover of the mustachioed Watermelon in Easter Hay Hitmakers (or WIEHH if you will) track of the same name (albeit updated)
I thought this may interest a few of you here. I like it a lot but you Zappa lot may see it as sacrilege.

So who were they? Did anyone ever see them? Was anyone at this gig? I assume this was Zappa’s “Wazoo” outfit, I have a bootleg of it somewhere which starts with FZ doing a rudimentary soundcheck ie “is everyone’s microphones working?”
Also, don’t you just love the batsman playing a forward defence with a Strat? And also, back in 1972 that look was olde worlde, but these days he looks like your local hipster barista.

Has anyone been to Zappanale? It’s looking like I may be able to pop over to Bad Doberan for a couple of days during a brief visit to the UK in July.
The website is lacking some essential info – like, what are the performance venues and where are they? I don’t mind camping but I’d prefer not to, in which case how do I get to wherever the performances are from wherever I’m staying? Etc etc
Of course I am emailing them but but just wondered if anyone has any experience of being there.

Someone sent me this picture they took at the Hendrix museum at the house at 23 Brook Street, London W1 where Jimi lived in 1968-69.
In the recreation of his bedroom we see Jimi’s record collection and look, he had the first Zappa LP Freak Out, the Byrds’ Fifth Dimension, Wes Montgomery’s A Day In The Life, the first Canned Heat album and last, but by no means least….

The opinionated composer-turned-conductor was never dull, in fact he took to the baton to share his love of music with, ahem, the masses of people who like that kind of stuff. Died yesterday at 90. Good guy. Here’s a sample

I see from the Uncut 200 Greatest Albums of All Time thread that the ubiquitous Pet Sounds continues to bestride the Best Album polls like a pop/psych Colossus.
Not everyone is in full agreement however, There follows a essay I wrote for the old blog which was sadly lost following the 48 Crash.
I hope it doesn’t cause too much offence to Beach Boys fans.

This pic comes from the 1969 issue of The History of Rock, a route march down memory lane produced by Uncut from the NME and MM archives, which comes to me courtesy of my Readly subscription (see references passim). Yet again, something I probably wouldn’t have shelled out for, but when it magically turns up on my iPad I can’t resist.
I dimly remember FZ getting a rough ride at the LSE. I remember the Mothers at the Albert the following week much better, though, because I was there.

I’ve got a drawer full of them, though some older ones seem to have shrunk quite a bit over the years 🙁
I’ve got three favourites ,a Dylan long sleeve with him posing with a bass guitar, the Neville brothers for a Yellow Moon tour and and Misty In Roots one from a tour of Zimbabwe in 1982.
These days the quality of most and the art seems to be a bit meh.
But today I came across this cracker !
Anyone got a shirt they want to show off?
