I was fairly busy this last week and didn’t get around to posting my ruminations on episodes 9 and 10. So I have decided to finish with a bumper discussion next week covering episodes 9 to 12. But I do wonder will Gilou sober up in time to defuse the atomic bomb beneath the Eiffel Tower, to which Laure is strapped?
The Afterword “Spiral” discussion (episodes 3 and 4) – spoilers will once again abound, so be up to date before entering
Well the revelation that Gilou is an alien entity from another galaxy certainly demanded that I revise my opinion, with the realisation we have been watching science fiction all these years and not a cop show. How did we not realise before now?

I thought it was a terrific start. It’s been too long since it left our screens and I was immensely pleased it had lost none of its edge.
Late, late alert: Spiral is back
Spiral – Series 6 discussion (warning – will contain spoilers)
It is clear from the What Else Have I Been Missing thread there are a few Spiral fans around, so I thought we could wean ourselves off our Saturday night addiction through some talking therapy. Lots to discuss now series 6 has ended (Series 7 has already gone into production, so we can breathe easy after that ending). Here are some topics to explore, but feel free to go off in your own preferred direction. I thought the end with respect to Laure made perfect sense. Josephine’s future: I guess this will be one of the axes of Series 7. I think there is going to more investigation into Vern. Will the hitherto creepy Edelman become, through necessity, an ally of Laure and Gilou in trying to bring Vern down? Even if they succeed will Josephine get off, or is she looking at serious time » Continue Reading.
Spiral tap? Merde! Ou est la pute de ma tante?
Very amused by this linguistic analysis of favvo Gallic cop show, Spiral. Perhaps not the best TV show to learn French? Rather like Learn English with The Wire.
Which begs the question: which are the best and worst programmes for the enthusiastic language learner?
Everyone speaks quite clearly in Downton but it’s a bit dated and far too posh.
Eastenders or Coronation Street?
A modern cop show perhaps but nothing by anachronistic Agatha Christie.
And when it comes to improving pronunciation which singers would you recommend?
Lemmy? Kate Bush? Damon Albarn? Tom Waits?
Your thoughts, mes amis!
