You wait years for a Sparks film and then two arrive at once.

Sparks have been trying to make a movie musical for decades. Getting close with A Tim Burton film in the 90s. But their dream as now come true and they are opening the Cannes film festival in July. Amazon have bought the streaming rights. Here’s the first trailer. https://youtu.be/On4v1gNJkrE

The Sparks documentary also arrives this summer. Directed by Edgar Wright it’s been picked up for wide distribution by focus features. In the doc they meet up with their first producer Todd Rungren after 50 years. They must have got on well because this surprise one off single just appeared. https://youtu.be/eVxnnyvpqr0

The only band ever to get better with age, (ignoring the slightly dodgy 80’s period) will they finally get the accolades they deserve after 50 years?

I’m enjoying the FFS album far more than I ever expected, which has forced me to look at Sparks. Notwithstanding a couple of well played 70’s singles there are twenty odd albums to plough through! Where do I start, are there two or three ‘must haves’ or am I better off getting one of the compilations? Advice please good people.

Celebrities and the bands they should have been in

I caught snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan on the telly the other day – with the sound off, which perhaps helped the illusion – and I couldn’t help but see him as a member of Oasis.

That got me thinking. Benedict Cumberbatch clearly belongs in Sparks and Jonathan Ross in Spandau Ballet.
