Esther Rose – back again so soon.

Only 8 months after her last gig at London’s finest venue (The Lexington) and she was back on the same stage. It was yet another superb evening. Last time Esther divided her time between sitting and standing but tonight she just sat on a beer barrel stool and told stories and sang songs. She seemed far more relaxed this time round and the show was all the better for it. Of course, when you’ve just released what is destined to be one of (of not the) albums of the year, you have a wealth of riches to choose from. She hinted that the next time might be with a band but it would be great even if she just brought a fiddler along! If it’s not too late to see her on this tour then do yourself a favour.

Happy Birthday, Ringo

So the sickly lad who was hospitalised with TB (and discovered a passion for drumming while he was in hospital) has made it to 80.

As a fan of all the Fabs, I still find that Ringo is one of my favourite solo albums of all. Ok, he had lots of help from the other three, as well as Harry Nilsson, Billy Preston, Nicky Hopkins and most of The Band, but it’s still his album.

Spin Off Best Ofs

Following up the recent ‘Best Of’ thread, these are albums that we can go out and buy. But what about the spin-off tracks? When band members go off-piste, get their side project on and strike out for solo glory. By the time three band members have signed to separate labels the prospect of a comprehensive Spin Off Best Of for say, New Order, is nil. Which is where we come in of course, and here’s my Spin Off Best Of for New Order. I’d rather listen to this than the last two NO albums for sure.
