As I type, Record Store Day 2017 is a mere ten sleeps away. I’d like to declare the what-are-you-going-to-get thread OPEN! So, what is everyone interest in?

I’ve no real problem with Record Store Day – I can’t say I’ll be camping out overnight with the eBay scalpers for any of this year’s offerings but ultimately it’s a bit of harmless fun. Nevertheless let’s have a but of harmless fun at RSD’s expense as we once again play…Record Store Day Bingo. Eyes Down..see how many you can spot:
1. Re-issue of album that is coming out later this year but in a different colour
2. ‘Bonkers’, ‘nutty’ and ‘totally loony’ collectors picture disc of a tune you can pick up in a charity shop for 5p. “What will they think of next ” etc…
3. More scrapings from the bottomless pit of shite bootlegs from Ozit / Dandelion (See pic)
4. ‘Exclusive’ debut release by a band literally nobody has ever heard of
5. Multiple ‘exclusive’ releases on different labels by same (dead) artist
6. Mega limited edition of 500 copies of something that would be lucky to sell 5 any other week
7. Dr Who
8. er…Nine Live albums by the same artist
9. “Official” reissues that the band have no knowledge of
10. Another Various Artists Mod/R&B/Soul comp
The list for this year was published last night, and is longer than ever. Do any of the releases pique your interest? With no participating shops in Suffolk, I won’t be taking part, but there does seem to be a lot of pointless reissues, as mentioned in the linked article (though I’m sure several here would disagree with their opinion of the Monkees’ catalogue as nonessential…).
So, what are your thoughts on RSD these days? And if you’re a fan, what are you hoping to get?

I strolled into the Record Centre in Ottawa’s up and coming Hintonburg area at around 9.45. Was busy, but not too crazy. Picked up Manics Holy Bible picture disc, The Dame’s Changes pic disc (single) and a double sided Dark Globe purple vinyl single with Syd B on one side and REM on the other. A non RSD specific purchase was Tour de France double LP. Drew a blank on a Zombies LP and a Bob Dylan/The Band release was too expensive.
Followed that with an awesome doughnut at SuzyQ’s (possibly the best I ever had) and a good coffee. In both places I was asked how my RSD was going “Very well, thanks”.
Over 550 releases. Far too many again. The exclusive and interesting releases are few and far between. I’d say the vast majority are just re-issues that were in the works anyway, and badged as RSD releases purely to give them an extra marketing push. Multiple re-releases from the same artist (hello Pulp, Bruce Springsteen, Wedding Present, Hawkwind) a lot of which you can second hand originals of in most 2nd hand stores any day of the week for £5. Anything on here you’d queue outside a record shop for?
