I had a stall at a big record fair in Dundee today and managed to clear out loads of stuff cheap, Beatles, Genesis, Dylan etc, albums I really wasn’t fussed with keeping and as usual the dealers were all over me. The advantage of this to me, was that I got chatting and to one of them in particular who told me he had just bought a huge Velvet Underground and related collection. I know how much he paid for the lot and there were some interesting bootlegs and all but i thought I’d offer him trade on albums from my stock which he would easily be able to double up + on and he took the bait! So I have managed to get a few keepers for my growing VU collection, the originals hardly ever turn up at fairs or anywhere in the wild so I cherry picked a couple of goodies and a live album I don’t have. I was really pleased as I have never owned original US issues of their albums, I have the UK ones but the debut with it’s banana intact and in lovely ‘fresh’ condition was an Xmas treat to myself, £100 in » Continue Reading.
Further Vinyl Finds
I have been digging through an awful lot of 7″s (+ one 5″) recently, a few of which I found on my trip down south a week ago when I picked up the signed Ziggy which is now hanging in my front room.
Mystery Cardboard Box
An old bloke in Arbroath rang me yesterday to say he was clearing a house and that he’d seen my records wanted card in a shop. He said he didn’t know what to do with a big pile of albums so was thinking of just dropping them at the tip but asked if I’d like the lot for nothing. So I went and collected a huge sellotape sealed box which is now sitting in the back of my car. I haven’t opened it yet as it’s fun to imagine wtf is actually in it!
Stickers On Record Sleeves
Further I comment I made in another thread, I thought I’d post up some of my more interesting (hopefully not just to me, haha) record sleeves that have special stickers on the front. I’ve found it’s most often the initial pressings that will have these special additions, sometimes making them much rarer records as a result, but often they seemed to have been added either as a marketing tool or just for fans amusement. Anyway, I have quite a lot of these and so will share some of my favourites, I’d be interested to see any others you may have too of course.
78’s Box
I was so tempted by this old 78’s record box at the car boot this morning but it was too pricey for me. The discs in sleeves flipped out at a 45 degree angle but it only held 12″ discs and I have mostly 10″ ones. I’ve never seen one like this before and I’ve collected 78’s for decades and it was in really lovely condition, possibly 1930’s.
