I recently got a link on Facebook via The Yachtles to a chap on You Tube called Steve Schnee. He has a channel called Schnee Tee Vee, which basically rounds up a bunch of mainly powerpop videos from around the world with links to their websites/Bandcamps so you can buy their stuff if you enjoy it. My pockets have already taken a bit of a beating and I dug out my Rinaldi Sings cd from the depths of my collection and I`ve only watched the first episode. Enjoy folks!
RIP Nick Walusko of the Wondermints
Very sad to hear that Nick Walusko has died at just 59. The Wondermints were a treasured secret among pop-pop obsessives like me in the 90s. I saw them twice, and their gig at the Borderline was one of the very best shows I’ve ever seen.
The Wondermints are best known for backing up Brian Wilson, and an amazing job they did of it too, but I’ll always wish they got to record some more of their own stuff. Now it’s too late.
Matthew Sweet UK gig Klaxon!
I hadn’t heard about this previously, so don’t know if it’s only just been announced, but the notoriously flight-averse Matthew Sweet is playing a rare UK gig next month, Tuesday 18th December at the Islington Assembly Hall… he’s promoting his recent-ish Tomorrow’s Daughter album, but recent gig reviews suggest a career-spanning setlist, so it’s an early Christmas present for us powerpoppers amongst us!

Pop Geek heaven
I’m sure that there are some Aw folk who are aware of this, but if not and if you enjoy silly pop songs from Jellyfish to Dwight Twilley, the Records, Shoes, and for today the old Rocket act, Blue.
Bruce, who runs the site is a bit, well, enthusiastic, but does a brilliant job of searching / curating / cobbling together physical and digital example of the genre. And, because I too am a bit, well, enthusiastic, I’m currently enjoying a 4 cd fanclub box of Jellyfish.
Click across to the site and have a root around then unleash your inner Shazam.
